Used the scissors on the new Classic SD to trim a few rather large plastic electrician ties. Little tough but worked!  :salute:

Scissors on the Super Tinker dusted off some zipties on packaging.

I actually used that hook! Twice!

First time was trying to pull the flap on a thin paperlike cardboard box. The product in the box was tight to the cardboard and the flap would not give. Then I recalled seeing a video where a guy stuck the hook inside a box and twisted it to pull the flap. I figured what the heck and tried it, and it worked.

Second time was removing a metal basket out of a hot instant pot that I had just boiled eggs in. Yeah, it’s a no brainer, but hey, it worked, and really it was the best tool around for the job, so why not?

A bit of path clearing at our local park.  Having waited months for the local authorities to do anything about storm fallen trees etc. there are a few locals who are just doing a bit as they go.

Nothing like a Hiker to clear a hiking trail.  :like:

As a maintenance tech at an apartment complex, today was inspection day. Since I’ve began carrying a SAK I’ve been able to make many on the spot repairs using just the knife and it has saved me a trip back with tools later. Today was no exception. I tightened about a dozen loose screws on doorbells and door knobs, and even repaired one deadbolt lock that was just about to fall completely out of the door. Also was able to unlock several doors within the apartments using the bottle opener screwdriver where people had them locked to keep us out of the rooms to prevent discovery of damages or other things.

We change air filters while there also, so the awl was used to open the boxes, and the large blade was used to cut the box flaps off, all but one, and the remaining flap got a smaller U shaped flap cut into it to fold up and then use the whole flap like a carry handle for the box of filters.

My old Super Tinker saved me many a trip to grab tools when I discovered this or that minor problem. What SAK do you carry when working?

I’m carrying a Ranger. I chose it because it seemed to have the most amount of tools while still having a small enough overall size to feel good in hand. Now I’m looking at the Handyman and starting to think “what’s a few more millimeters in width when I can have those pliers too.” Or maybe just get a Deluxe Tinker and carry them side by side and gain a dedicated philips too. I think I’m kinda going SAK crazy. LOL!

I can see the Ranger being a good SAK for apartment maintenance. A Mechanic or a Special Mechanic would get you the pliers (which can come in very handy) in a slimmer package.

Up until now I had not really considered the possibility of two knives. I guess if I did that, then I’d have a good reason to break out a grinder and start modifying some blades to keep tool redundancy to a minimum. I’m thinking turn the tip of the bottle opener into a chisel/scraper. Maybe even cut a 7/16 hex wrench into the cap lifter for loosening left behind coax cables (people abandon the cable company’s routers and modems all the time when they move out). Turn the can opener into a hook blade. Straighten out the edge shape of the small blade, turning it into a wharncliffe blade. I‘ve also read that a 25° bevel on a knife edge is still sharp but more robust to retain the edge longer for heavier use, so I’d consider changing the angle of the large blade’s edge grind to see how that goes. Or maybe not do anything to it and just keep one large blade reserved for cutting food at lunch time.

One more thing I did with the Ranger (now yesterday) was saw off a tree limb thicker than my wrist. The saw was probably only 1/2” longer than the branch was in diameter. Took 9 minutes, but I got it done. The wood was green around the outer edges but the inner diameter was dark and seemed to be pretty hard. This was on a red bud tree.

I worked maintenance for years (mostly hotels and the like) and the convenience of not having to go grab tools was the reason I ended up carrying MTs.

The saw is one of my most valued tools. It's essential when working in my yard, and I wouldn't even contemplate going on a camping trip without one.

I used the awl on my Explorer Plus to make 6 holes in the plastic liner of my kitchen garbage can.  These holes allow air to escape so the garbage bag seats fully in the liner and doesn't poof up causing me to say potty words.  Situated about 3" from the bottom of the liner, they are high enough that any garbage bag leaks will still be retained by the liner.  Bonus tip:  keep a few bags, or a whole roll of bags, under the bag being used for easy access.
