NEW SAKS
on: December 14, 2012, 01:55:59 PM
Two new 58mm saks:
Jetsetter, US Vic # 58128
Jetsetter Flash Drive, Vic # 4.6105.3LGBUS1

The Jetsetter Flash Drive has the old orange peeler w/scraper (or cut & pick blade), now dubbed clamshell opener. Both are advertised as "air friendly."

In November Victorinox announced the Flash versions of the Jetsetter with Apple (an Apple exclusive).

There is is the Jetsetter/Jetsetter 1, Jetsetter 2, and Jetsetter 3 models without the Flash drive as well.  A couple configurations right now are only available in the Premium Sales market, where companies can order them in a wide range of colors.  If they are popular maybe one of the larger dealers will order a batch for themselves to sell.

I bought my Jetsetter flash drive at an Apple Store, but it is compatible w/Windows. It came in a sealed plastic box with the usual Vic logo, lettering, etc. Oddly enough the model name on the box reads: "Secure Data Storage," probably because it was sold by Apple. There is no mention on the box of "Jetsetter." Vic's new, official name for the old Orange Peeler/Scraper is now "Hook Tool/Package Opener with Scraper," as noted on the box's label. The flash drive I got is 8GB. This drive is several mm's thinner that the ones on the old flash drives. I believe there was a thread about this in which one mod was able to fit one old (thicker drive) and one new (thinner driver) together in a SAK.

The Flash drive is the same 'secure data drive' from the slim Alox flash drive series, nothing new.

It may only be 'secure' on Apple as Vic had that big foobar with the encryption license and they reported that they have retreated from that market making all the flash drives unsecured.

I'm not sure, but maybe the deal with apple allows the drive to still use secure encryption.

Try the secure features and let us know.

Being on the "approved" air-friendly list and actually getting by the TSA goons at the airport are often two different things, unfortunately.
