Is there a labeled E X P L O D E D view out there?

Is there an exploded view of a SAK out there?  I've got a problem with my older Ranger model SAK, and I'd like to be able to explain to the repair techs exactly what the problem is. :tool:

If you can't fix it with duct tape, a hammer, a screwdriver, bailing wire, zipties, or a Swiss Army Knife, it's broken and irreparable.

Can you add the info to this pic? Not a ranger but close.

(Image removed from quote.)

What is the name of the pieces that are flanking the wood saw (right side.. below the hacksaw, and above the scissors?

Or from my own damaged SAK, that form the slot that the wood saw "fits" into.

My Old (lower) and New (upper) SAK's - Damage to my SAK.

If you look at my older knife (the lower one in the photo below), you can see how badly chewed up the liner is.

Does anybody know if Victorinox will replace the liners to make it more like the newer knife?  I called today, and was told that they don't customize knives, but GOD those liners are a PITA.  I'm guessing that they got a lot of complaints about them, thus the new models don't have them.

Bent saw...  Here's how it got that way...  A beaver that lives in the creek alongside this trail downed a tree, right across the MUP (Multi User Pathway) that I commuted (past tense) on.

You cut a 6 inch log with a SAK? Congrats on the win. Poor SAK did its best.

It had cut larger, but when the branch flexed while getting cut off, it totally monkeyed up the saw.

?

I love my SAK's...  I've contributed to the flickr group for SAK's  for some time, I've got a couple of sets on flickr about my using them (pruning to clear sidewalks/bike lanes/trails). That, and I've given the Ranger Model a 5 Star review on Amazon.  I'm not fully dressed without my SAK (unless I'm boarding a commercial flight), when it's in the checked bags.

And this is a warranty problem? Should Victorinox fix this for free? Sounds like that SAK helped you out of a bad situation.

I'm not asking for Victorinox to fix it for free, but I didn't know how to properly describe the problem so they could fix it for me.

But, when I asked if I could buy the "Plus" scales (while getting my knife fixed), they said that they don't modify knives.  Those saw liners are a problem for me.  If I could, I'd take the knife apart, and grind the offending slot away myself.  I don't have the tools necessary.

Just say 'bent saw and damaged liner'.

Anyone examining it will immediately see the issue, I think.

Ok, back to the original topic...  I took GigaHz's image and added labels...

A: Philips Screwdriver (often a Corkscrew goes here)
B: "Left" Body Plate
C: Small Blade
D: Large Blade
E:
F:
G:
H: Hacksaw
 I:
J: Chisel
K:
L: Wood Saw
M:
N: Fine Screwdriver
O:
P: Scissors (with spring)
Q:
R: Multi-Purpose Hook (Parcel Carrier)
S:
T: Pliers
U:
V:
W: Bottle Opener
X: Can Opener
Y:
Z: Reamer
AA: "Right" Body Plate

Now if someone can help fill in the gaps, I'd be grateful.

Only thing wrong I see is it is a "Craftsman". Not a "Deluxe tinker".

Yes this.

This wouldn't be too hard of a fix.  I would either get a replacement saw or I'd put it in a vise and try to flatten it out.  The liners are soft aluminum (aluminium) and can be easily filed/sanded down.

Personally, I think Victorinox will gladly repair this sort of damage.  If you can do without it for a few weeks, I bet they'd make it right as rain.

Oh...  Nuts, I can't fix it now (in the forums).  I didn't catch that the Deluxe Tinker doesn't have the Hacksaw or the Fine Screwdriver.

There is a good exploded view of the Spartan with parts labeled in The Swiss Army Knife Owner's Manual (by "one of us").  Carl Elsener liked it enough that Victorinox used it (with permission) in the booklet accompanying the recent Limited Edition Spartan.
Some sources call the plates between blades Dividers and use the term Liners for the plates adjacent to the scales.
The SAK Owner's Manual also has advice on how to cut a branch without wrecking the saw (or the user).   ;)

interesting thread:

a beaver
a bent saw
a 6" branch?
and a troll?

i would think that it would that victorinoix would replace it.

someone should have a spare liner for you if you wish to fix it yourself
