Unusual Wenger Metal 50
on: January 16, 2013, 03:20:33 AM
I just picked up a Wenger Metal 50 type knife that at first glance I thought was a Stainless Traveler.  As there is a printed Wenger logo, it appeared to be the less desirable to me Stainless Traveler, but upon closer inspection it is shaped like a Metal 50.  There is also some writing on the blade.  Anyone know what this knife could be?

Also, anyone have any stories about the Metal 50?  It seems to weigh about 50% more than the SI I have in my pocket, which seems a bit heavy but I suppose I'll have to wait until I pick it up.  Pretty stocked though, metal scales plus scissors!

Cheers

The blade seems to say this:

700 Jahre/ans/anni/onns
Confoederatio Helvetica

Which if I am correct is to commemorate the 700th Anniversary of Switzerland, back in in 1991!

Its a Wenger Metal 50/Stainless Traveler for the 700th anniversary of Switzerland.

Your's appears to be missing most of the logo on the handles, either worn off or polished off. Still a good user, though more than a bit heavy. I normally carry a Traveler. Carried one of these for a few hours and swapped back to the original. Definately a load.

There are a number of other 'coffin' Stainless Travelers, some commemoratives, others commercial.

Thanks for he pics. It seems that there might be something etched on the back of the scales. Time will tell.

I can't really complain about the worn logo, it was a $16 sak :p

And still within the Wenger warranty too!
