Kamasa Multitool

Another cheapie, any thoughts ? I'm looking out for a proper Bear Jaws non-locking multi, but the Macs are thin on the ground. Is this one ?

Never heard of Kamasa, but the tool has the look of a knock-off. $:-\$

(By the way, judging by those hook/tabs on the handles I'm thinking the blades lock open.)

I remember Kamasa, they make middle & budget range car tools.

I've got an old set of Kamasa socket's. they must be 30 odd years old but there still in good nick, that said for a Fiver how good can it really be

It's not a Bear- the pins are the wrong type.

Usually when the manufacturer has nothing better to write across the handle than "STAINLESS STEEL" it's a bad sign!

Incidentally, does anyone object to me asking about the cheapie tools on the forum ?
I wouldn't want to reduce the overall quality, or promote poor quality knock-offs.

I don't mind one bit- this is Multitool.org, not priceyhighendmultitools.com!

You really aren't promoting those cheapies, and a tool doesn't have to be a brand name to be good either. The brands don't pay the site bills, and until they do, I'll happily discuss the virtues and merits of any tools that work. By the same token, I'll take a shot at any tool, brand name or otherwise if it warrants it!

Got this today. It's falls into the "not bad" category. No engraving or stamped lettering at all, it's printed. Tools are quite nicely formed nice and thick SS, nothing "bendable" or poorly formed, even the file & saw look fine. One major quibble is the tools are a little stiff but hopefully a squrt of WD40 and oil will help. All tools lock.
The belt sheath is leatherette and looks as if it would last ok, no worse than the current crop of Leatherman sheaths.
Only paid a fiver so i'm not unhappy.

Hey, if it gives at least that much in service, who can quibble? I bought a pair of Bear knock offs from Wal-Mart for $5 US and they've been very good tools. I'd still hate to lose any multitool, but if I lost one of the lesser models, I don't think I'd have to take as much Valium as I would for a Swisstool.

You know, that point is very astute. My single greatest gripe with the cheap tools is that their Phillips either round off quickly or the Phillips won't fit the screw properly and rounds IT off. I hardly ever have a problem anywhere else. Second would be the pliers breaking off just below the pivot point and above the handle.

Had a quick look at the Phillips driver, it's formed ok, but after a test on various screws it had a couple of slightly chewed high spots, so not too great a result, it will do when nothing else is available.

I'll probably take it to the office and leave it in a drawer to lend out

Sorry to hear that. One experience I've had with Bears like yours is that it certainly won't round off at the Phillips. In tight spots I've removed screws sunk deep into wood by power drivers and have never had a problem with the Phillips. One weird thing about Bears though, is how they blunt the tips of their Phillips- for small screws I had to carry a mini-Phillips in my pack. Still for drywall and deck screws, that Phillips works very well.

Bit of a bug bear for me is that Pozidrive screws are more common here. If I don't have a proper screwdriver with me I often prefer to use a flathead driver on the multi (the middle size flathead on the Juice is good for Pozidrive 2), the Phillips never seem to work that well with these.

Forgive my justified paranoia. But every time I buy a cheapie knife/multi, sucker paractically falls apart after 1 use

I don't think this will fall apart, pretty heavy duty, but I wouldn't recommend it either.
