Interesting diversion for them

The bike tool does look a little like something Topeak make.

What are the odds its a 111mm folder and pin compatible wit the others... Can't wait for pricing on those, and to order some!

The hunter is available here (it seems the same) and it was uncomfortable for me to have a thump hole in the palm and to use a lefty linerlock. But the Bike Tool and folder are going to be bought for sure.

If you're going to be taking one of those apart, I'll look forward to pics. I'd be very interested to know if it can be converted to slippy with a little reshaping of the backspring latch ;)

It would be awesome if they were compatible with standard 111mm SAKS. you could just steel a standard slipjoint spring from there if you needed to.

I'm not sure if I like the BikeTool...not as a stand alone tool.

- You do not need so many bits, just the right ones.
- How do you repair a broken chain?
- Where's the tool to tension spokes?
- Wrench or pliers?

I agree with nuph on this one.

Something doesn't seem right somehow.

I do note though, that Vic' has thrown caution to the wind and releleased all manner of new and radical designs here.

Gosh I'm really spoilt for choice!!

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

And what's the deal with the Bike Tool? That's actually a PB Swiss Tools' product from your link.

I like the folding lockblade.. the profile of the knife looks great, but the handles makes it look kinda cheap. Atleast they could have made a better logo. Will probably have to pick up one.

Probably it's made in the far east. They buy a bunch and everybody puts his logo on it.  :ahhh

New Goodies from Victorinox - Coming in April
Reply #24 on: January 20, 2013, 12:12:12 PM
I see great potential for Victorinox if they chose to expand their knives lines beyond the traditional Swiss Army forms. Most "tactical" knives come from US and are either difficult to find or unreasonably expensive for Europeans. Years ago Mr Elsener answered to a Greek Journalist that asked "why don't you produce a one hand opening blade" that their intention is for SAK's to be regarded as tools and not weapons. That was after 9/11 and their move towards clothing, bags, watches and perfumes. But just a couple of years afterwards they produced a bunch of one hand opening blades and Wenger also.
Now this lockback (if it is a lockback) is something different than a 111mm Solo. If it is embraced it might open new lines of folders and Victorinox could easily target a market that now  belongs to Opinel from Europe and Spyderco, CRKT and others (not to mention tons of Chinese staff).
One might not like the first of the possible series but if it evolves there could be a folder for everyone. Even new knife centered Multitools for hunting, camping, military and police work etc. And more options for you, collector guys.
Choosing the Swisschamps for my EDC, because the blade was so offset, I felt the need for a separate folder that has no additional tools (XLT has them all). The blade should be bigger, centered, locking and one hand opening, serrated welcomed  The Opinel Outdoors suits my needs (and the No 8 Jardin most of them) but I would prefer one from Victorinox or Wenger. A dual locking OHO with drop point plain and sheepfoot serrated with lower thump holes and amphidextrous locks is what I'm waiting for.
Sorry for all that blah-blah but I was excited.

I think Victorinox has done absolutely the right thing in steering clear of the tactical feel. Even their one handed stuff is utilitarian in look and feel, and they should do everything they can to preserve their perception of being the manufacturer of universally accepted pocket tools. I'm sure a non-knife person would feel the lockback is a little  :o :o :o in an urban setting, but I think it has the look of a decent field knife about it rather than being too tactical. As for the scales making it look cheap - Victorinox knives ARE cheap, and that's a huge slice of their appeal. They are cheap and affordable, but the quality of manufacture and performance still rival items several times their price
