LM Micra Plier MOD
on: January 20, 2013, 10:06:57 PM
At long last I have found a donor for pliers to fit into my Micra. Judging by the photos absolutely no modification will be required to fit them. The Katahdin mini tool I found looks to be a 1:1 clone judging from photos. Now I just have to be patient and wait for them to arrive  :ahhh

Marketed under the brand "Katahdin Mountain Sports" I just picked it up off Ebay. A websearch didn't reveal much

Katahdin Mountain Sports Multi-Tool Travel Kit - Ended, but still shows the package.

Could only find the small image.

I don´t have a Micra to tell if the sizes are identical, but i have 2 Micra sized Plier based tools i would not mind giving away (though I´ll rob the pivots  first)

So, if you want one to play with, Metropolcity, drop me a PM with your Address again and call it your birthday present.

I don't want to be a nay-sayer, but the plier head thickness on the Squirt, and Style line, and the scissors, is thicker than the opening on the Micra. If the plier of this knock off fits in a micra, they did it by thinning out pliers. As the plier head of my Berkley fishing tool is even thicker than would fit in a Micra... and is terrible... I am more than a little wary about this.

I do hope it works, because a Micra with plier head (and maybe a swing-out scissor from a Squirt PS4 or Style PS) would be pretty sweet.

How thick is the micra head? I have a little cheapo tool that might have pliers which work.

Judging by the photo provided in the ebay auction it looks as though it is a true 1:1 clone. I won't know for certain until I receive the tool and do a test fitting though :D Here's to hoping.
It also looks to include a cool prybar/file combo I may swap in for the nail file as well and of course find some scissors!

You might still be able to find these donors on eBay.   Mine's still holding up.

I robbed the pivots of the tools and sent them to Canada this morning.
I added a Sheffield variant with blue/turqouise Alox scales, too.
I hope one of the heads fits.

Well the Katahdin micra clone came in today :mail:

After doing a dry fit it looks as though I will need to remove some material from behind the pivot on the pliers. Strangely enough the scissors along with the spring line up flush whereas the pliers and their spring do not. Pics to follow of course  :D

Unfortunately I don't think LM would ever make a commerical version of it. However in as short as a couple of days, I will have a self made one  :D

I really wanted to put some p4 pliers into a micra, but they were too thick.  The micra would should come with pliers IMO. :D

I spent my whole shift contemplating the end result of this mod. While I think it may be nifty to have a micro PST, I don't honestly feel the LM micra frame is sufficient enough to support pliers anymore

I also received some other mini multi's along with the afformentioned donor tool. One of which is a ToolzAll PocketPro which is a clone of the Mini Bear Jaws. It has a great frame which is just begging for better tools. Secondly it has outside accessable tools! Same design I think the micra should change to.

So I think I decided to discard the idea of modding a micra, well that is unless I can come up with a way to turn it inside out >:D

Instead I will make a Franken-Toolzall with a real Phillips, a file/prybar, real blade and a pair of scissors ;D This will be ambitious only because it will require many donor tools >:D
