Flew somewhere for Thanksgiving week with family. Since I couldn’t risk TSA pulling some crazy confiscation of a good SAK (from my checked bag), I opted to bring one I could easily replace, a Ruby Tinker.

I have no idea if TSA would confiscate a knife in your checked baggage. They shouldn't...but then again, I haven't flown in over 15 years, so I'm not up on the rules and whatnot. Still a good little carrier. I should have a Tinker carrier tomorrow...

Not sure but I believe they just check you. The bag goes to plane cargo hold.

Underline “shouldn’t”. According to their rules they don’t care about pocket knives in checked bags, but they also bend rules on the fly. Don’t want to find one of those tags on my bag showing it was manually checked by a TSA agent (I’ve had them before) and a knife is now missing.

The TSA is one of the primary reasons I won't fly anymore (unless I ever get a huge amount of disposable income and can justify taking flying lessons). Now I wonder how many of those confiscated SAKs seen on eBay were seized by an overzealous agent bending rules at will. Not a good way to operate.

Yeah, that is a dangerous combination, my friend.

Today I wanted an ultralight carry, so it was Jetsetter and Cadet. Nobody saw any action, so here they are before going back into storage.

It's Friday and I'm carrying exactly what I carried yesterday (as well as many yesterday's before that), my trusty Alox MiniChamp.

Were you in an area in which carry of a knife was forbidden or frowned upon?

From 2006 to 2016 i flew all over the world.
China, Sweden, the USA, England, Finland, Ireland, Canada, Holland, New Zealand as well as several other places.
I had a pocket knife in my packed bag on every flight, never once being questioned or having my bags checked (to my knowledge)
Even in Australia (Nanny capital of the world) never a problem.

As long as i had nothing like a tool, knife, bottle opener, nail clipper or anything else they could possibly make out to be a weapon, I was ok.
However, as a well qualified black belt with many years experience in competition fighting, they never once questioned my hands.

But the thing that truely has me stumped.
I travelled mostly business class, my employer had a policy, over 6 hours, business class.
And the meals had metal cutlery, full sized knives and forks.
Its not hard to get an edge on most metal tools, at a pinch.
Perhaps business class arent seen as a threat?
tools is what defines us as humans
