That is a full size EDC! Nice.

How do you carry it? Can you compare handling and use with 111mm models?

I really prefer the larger sized SAK's in my hand, I'm used to previously carrying a Soldier or Pioneer, to me they are a compact knife.  I don't bother with a pouch it's just a pocket carry item.

I believe it all comes down to what feels comfortable in your own hand and as well what you are used to using, anything smaller than a 91mm SAK feels awkward and clumsy to me.

I use a spartan which is new, but my trusty EDC is a champ. These knifes are made to be used and enjoyed, not to keep them in beautiful boxes

Nicely done! :tu:

My mod was simpler. I'd long wanted a blue 91mm SAK to carry around, so I slapped some blue scales on this Camper.

These guys might help me do a little bit of washing machine repair later if I can get around to it. Right now it’s just time to enjoy the patio.

Today it’s the Evolution 18 (the non-locking version).

So, basically a Fieldmaster tool set with a nail file in place of the small blade.

I really like the evolution scales and the Delemont collection helps fill the gap left in the standard Vic 84mm line since none of those have more than 2 layers.

Also, the thin blade stock slices like nobody’s business!

Wengers 85mm line is good especially those with scissors.  Victorinox wont be doing any 84mm with scissors or any 84mm for that matter.  I haven't looked in a long time but I'd imagine Vic 84mm with scissors are still  going for a premium.

I carry a Wenger Security 14 quite a lot.

Just got back from two weeks of camping in the Adirondacks. I am officially back in full time SwissChamp mode. I think the latest iteration from Victorinox is the best SwissChamp yet.

You're correct about used 84mm Vics with scissors. IF you can find one on eBay at all, it's very expensive.

But I've never owned an actual Wenger. My two Delemont models (the 18 that's still in my pocket today and a S557) are both post-Vic acquisition and both have the Victorinox version of the can opener, awl, etc. That's fine by me though - I love the Vic can opener - it's a multi tool all of it's own!

I've always liked Vics can opener.  Its multifunction.  I don't have a Vic acquired Wenger SAK.  The 85mm line is a terrific alternative.  I'm sure there are many not the secondary market at fairer prices that 84mm Vics with scissors.

I've had very similar thoughts and have been shopping for an Evolution 14 for some time.  I saw a price drop and ordered one the other day.  Haven't got it yet.

Wouldn't it be great if they started producing small Climber and Cadet X?

The 14 is a really good one.  Those 85mm Delemonts are why Vic wont produce 84mm IMO.  Well that and they just wont.

I have come to appreciate my Security 14 so much.  Now admittedly I do have a 84mm Golfer as well.  Its nice and I am learning to like the combo tool.

I bought both my Delemonts used on eBay. I find them to be a little spend-y brand new compared to their traditional Vic cousins.

That's my theory as well. Once they had the Wenger factory, machines, and designs there was no need to resurrect the 84m scissors. To do so at this point would just be competing with themselves.

-snip-

I've looked around a bit on eBay but I found, for ex, that the Evolution 14 was actually not that much less used on ebay than the $35.06 including shipping it cost new on the big site.  Course that was after watching it for a few months and swooping in when it dropped.  Recently some prices have declined as US Dollar is quite strong at the moment.  I have to admit I have some trepidation about used pocket knives.  It's such an intimate thing and I confess to having a horror of trying to get the grunge off.  Some of the scarred, scratched and just plain dirty examples I have seen listed turned me off quite a bit. :o :D

Love those sites but if the SAK is serious messed up, I get neurotic, even knowing I'm buying a used one... the SAK quest continues   :salute:

This one just sold. The start bid was $79.99, and it went for $122.50!

Whoa, I have a couple 84mm Golfers .  I think its a great size but when there are 85mm Wengers with scissors thats a lotta dough to spend.  totally get the collectors but for a user I've always liked the Wenger scissors so no thanks.

I stuck with the Evolution 18 today. I was doing some yard work and thought the saw might be useful.

Nope!

Even though it looks a lot like the 91mm Vic version I did not find it nearly as easy to use and had to give up on that.

Oh well, I guess every tool can’t be a winner.

Well that Delemont Evolution 14 arrived and I'm carrying it a bit.  I wanted an 84 or 85mm knife similar to a Climber and this is more or less it for current production.  My expectations were not that high because I have an S101 and have never really bonded with it.  Closing the blade is kind of fiddly, the release gets caught on your pocket, the shape didn't feel all that natural or slim....  But this Evo 14 turned out quite different.  It feels good in the hand, the thickness is comfortable in the hand.  I've heard a lot of negative things about the micro-serrated scissors with torsion bar but I like it.  Cuts fine for me and I like the solid action and excellent return of the torsion bar.  Overall something of a surprise - I like it a lot.

That’s awesome!

I think the evolution scales actually work well if the SAK isn’t too skinny. I find the S557 to be really comfortable in the hand considering how thick it is at 5 layers.
