It’s funny how quickly you can get used to things.

I carried my Climber today. No particular reason, just felt like it.

It felt strangely heavy in the pocket after carrying my Recruit for almost two weeks straight. “Heavy” is not a word I have ever used to describe the Climber!

I wonder what a larger SAK is going to feel like after I carry an Executive for a solid month for the Chuck Yeager challenge???

Thought I would carry my Pruner today for backup. Just in case my Executive couldn't handle something tougher than it was made for so I wouldn't ruin a discontinued model.

I get this same sensation after I carry my sportsman or Ambassador the huntsman and climber will feel like absolute bricks. An executive for a whole month might require a recalibration period.

I have been carrying my Climber and a newly rebuilt homemade scientist for the past few days.  :climber:

Yeah, I think I’ll have to work my way back up!

It’s pretty rare for me to carry anything heavier than a Climber/Super Tinker though. Sometimes my Evolution 18 will spend a couple of days in my pocket.

I’ve tried to carry my Deluxe Tinker or S557 but they are just too heavy for my tastes. Even my beloved Explorer feels a little chunky.

The more chunky you get, the less chunky it feels.  Trust me on this.   :salute:

Today the Echotech UK Tour 2022 Compact (very generously gifted to me by SurgeUk) for the 30 SAKs in 30 days challenge I’m doing this month, love to have more people join me, it’s not too late if you go to the 31st

Love the pruner. I wish they would bring it back. Only place I can find one for purchase is international.

Never sure if a Swisstool counts as a SAK… at any rate, today the Rally accompanied the Spirit in the pocket.

Nice, you like Acid cigars? I liked the Kuba Kuba’s, you know we actually have a cigar page, not a big subject but here’s the link,

Thanks for the link! I do enjoy a cigar every now and then. The acid blondes are OK, but I wouldn’t get them again. The box is leftover from our wedding (several years ago now) as part of a cigar bar.

Oh nice, congrats, I liked the Kuba Kubas, but my fav were Cohibas back in the day! Back at our old house I made a little pond next to the porch with a waterfall, and when I cut the grass I’d have a swarm of bugs that would follow me, so I’d have a super cheap long cigar and just keep it going only to keep the bugs off, finish cutting the yard and be drenched, so go take a shower, then come down and hit the humidor and get a nice Cohiba, hit the fridge and get a nice wine cooler, then go out and sit on the porch on a porch swing and watch the sun set while listening to the flow of water while our past dog would lay at the steps and just relax!

Now that the MiniChamp challenge is over, I'm back to my new love, the Farmer X. It's kind of funny, how I came around to the FX.

Way back 20 years ago, I was one of the vocal alox lovers amongst the various knife related forums, always gushing about the Farmer, but forever asking why there wasn't a model with scissors. A pretty good number of us thought that a Farmer with scissors would be the ultimate SAK. I kind of whined for years on end, but eventually gave up and moved on. There were modders more talented than myself, adding scissors to Farmers, but I never pursued that course of action. I'm not sure why.

Then the FX came out, and I didn't even know about it. I was in the midst of a multi-year love affair with the SwissChamp, pretty well ignoring ever other knife in existence. I eventually found out about the FX, and bought one. But it just sat in a box. I was riding the SwissChamp train pretty hard, and the new red Knifecenter Farmer X had that logo engraving on the rear cover that I just couldn't get along with aesthetically. I eventually bought a plain boring silver alox FX with no engraving.

So I used the silver FX for the June Favorite Four Layer Challenge, and began to realize the knife's true potential. During that challenge I purchased a green FX as well, and thought that I'd eventually move to that green one if the FX grew on me. You see, I'd never quite accepted the silver alox color. The silver always screamed "generic SAK" to me. The same color as any other 93mm alox. No fun. But as the challenge progressed, the silver really started working for me. The silver alox with modern Victorinox logo sort of became my FX color, kind of how I see the old red cross alox as my Pioneer color.

Fast forward to October, and I went off on a 2 1/2 week vacation to the mountains, all by myself. Complete solitude and reliance on the equipment I had with me. I'm not sure why, but I left the Swisschamp behind and decided to use the FX instead. I guess I was finally ready. Well, the Farmer X proved to be absolutely amazing in the field. I might go as far as to say perfect for my outdoor uses.

And now, it's the only knife I can think about. I'm entranced by the Farmer X. The silver FX rides daily in a leather pouch I made, years and years ago. This pouch has carried quite a few knives over the years, and now it's stretched out to the FX shape and size, fitting like a hand in a glove.

Great story BB.  Odd how such things work.  All those years wanting and finally getting only to ignore.  Glad the silverFX is all that and much more for you.
