Smells like...  SAK Love.

Anybody else use it to show some love to their knives?
If you can't fix it with duct tape, a hammer, a screwdriver, bailing wire, zipties, or a Swiss Army Knife, it's broken and irreparable.

3 in 1 or WD-40 is good, but the smell is hard as heck to get out afterward (I don't mind it, but the wife loathes it). I usually use baby oil.

Personally I love the smell of WD40 but it's not the best thing for keeping tools oiled!

A little dab behind each ear does wonders though... ;)

I use Vic food grade oil on all my SAKs.  It seems to work pretty well.

As with my Leatherman, pocket knives, mountain bike, and anything else that uses oil have always used Tri-Flow with Teflon.

Getting low on that now. Had two 2 oz. bottles of the stuff for 20+ years now. First tried it during my skateboarding days, and added extra Teflon shots to each bottle.

I was going to try 3-in-1, but then I noticed it had the poison symbol on the bottle... so I was like... I dont use a SAK for food often, but sometimes.. so .. went back to the Vic stuff.

I use Ballistol as a final libricant/protector. When I get a used SAK, I first use WD40 to remove rust if any as well as gunk. I then rinse it with Dawn then pat dry. Spray little Ballistol on the joints and am good to go.  Ecxept for the WD40 part, I do this after a week of SAK use.

I hoard lubes just as I hoard SAKs, MTs, knives, lights and guns.  Ballistol, Break Free, Hoppes, FP-10, 3-in-1, WD-40 and plenty of others.  But even having the high tech and spendy lubes, I usually just give a pivot a little zip of WD-40 and that does the trick.

Break Free CLP smells delicious when I use it. Keep that in my gun cleaning kit for use specifically on my Ruger GP100.

I used Olive Oil (extra virgin from Kalamata) years ago. That smells GOOD (at least for us, Mediterranean guys).
Then I settled with Singer oil for two decades. Once I used Lithium and recently I did all my SAKs with WD-40 (recently discovered). I bought the Victorinox but didn't have the chance to use it yet because everything is oiled for good. Only my Opinel No8 Bleu Barouder is very stiff, but I don't know if it is wise to soak the wood with oil (Vaseline is perfect they say).

Love the smell of WD40, But don’t put it on while smoking Chrissy  :o

Thanks for that, I didn’t know it was still around (I have a bottle from years ago as well)  :tu:

At work I use Molykote Omnigliss on my tools. But my SAKs are often used for foodprep
so I use for that clear Mineral Oil, because it's cheap, foodsave and doesn't stick too much. Also nice for oiling wooden cutting boards. For general purpose I do like Ballistol, but it has a certain smell to it and the vapor irritates a little. For oiling wooden handles I like Lemon Oil (love the smell)
mixed with genuine turpentine and sometimes resin.

I'd have to look at what's in it, but if you're looking for the most lovely smelling lube,

Marvel's Mystery Oil (MMO).  Smells like wintergreen. :)

I've smelled some bike lube (Tri-Flow?) that smelled like bananas...  (or rather, artificial banana flavoring).

Or is that my artificial bananas smell like bike lube?   ???

The worst smelling "oil/lubricant/protector" I have is Tuff Marine.  You really need to use it outside and any tools you put it on have to be left out overnight. Really bad, strong smell. I am sure it can make you dizzy or high.

Braso is also bad, but not so much.

I'm a 3-IN-1 guy all the way... it's not just that I like the smell: it really does seem to me to work better on knife joints than alternatives.

I miss the old metal can though... the lid/stopper on the old can worked great and was easy to use. Not so much so with the current all plastic can and cap.
