Winchester Nail Clipper
on: January 31, 2013, 12:23:37 AM
I don't remember where I got this one from, but I got it a while ago.

I believe I got it around the time I was starting MTO, and I was buying any and all tools I could get my hands on so I could write reviews and flesh out the site.  I seem to recall this one being so poor that I couldn't write an unbiased review of it.   :ahhh

I'd all but forgotten about it again until it was mentioned here not too long ago and I thought "I should take pictures of that awful thing!"  So, I did, and now you get to enjoy them too!

The scissors are over sprung and fire all the way open when unfolded.  The nail clippers stick out of one handle, but aren't useable until you fold them out.  Unlike the Wenger Nail Clipper, these clippers were not designed to go into a tool- rather they are just the same nail clippers you get anywhere, and the tool was cut out to accommodate them.  I guess since they were cutting holes in the handles they figured they may as well go the distance and make a cutout for the tweezers as well, which also protrude when closed.

This is a cheap tool in every sense of the word.  Not a lot of effort went into designing it, not a lot of effort went into manufacturing it and while lots of effort may have gone into obtaining the Winchester name, not a lot of effort went into the cheap paint job to put said logo on it.

If you see one of these for less than $3 it might be worth having if you are a collector, but if you are intending to actually use it, I'd save my money.

Looks like an interesting grooming concept. To bad it's so poorly executed.

I realize that the Wenger Nail Clipper is significantly more expensive than this one, but it is well worth it.  this one is garbage.  I have been unsuccessful in trimming my nails with this on the (very) few occasions I tried it.

It pretty much is.  It seems very much like it was just cobbled together from parts.

If I hadn't seen quite a few of these over the years that were identical to it I'd think it was a very poor mod job.

I think I have proof that whoever is actually making these things, really is just using leftover parts from something else. Take a look at the tool selection in this particular specimen (not even labeled Winchester)

Apparently whomever the original source for parts was, they ran out of tweezers and they had to get them from somewhere else!  I think I like the tweezers on yours better than mine as they look like they are less likely to snag on things.

Thanks!  It still feels weird not having the yellow one, but I imagine I'll get used to it eventually!

Wow, that is one amazing piece!  Who wouldn't want to be able to clip their toenails and eat their porridge with the same tool?   :ahhh
