Im after a SIEG SX3.  Went and checked one out at a local tool warehouse in town.  Still in the crate and I just need to borrow a truck to lug it home.  I did the research to do the CNC conversion on this model which is why Im keen on it.  :D

Looks nice! Is the CNC conversion an option the company sells, or a third party add on?

The local guy here makes the mechanical interface parts for the stepper motors so I can get that from him, the electronics and motors I have to order as a kit.  But then im in business!

Nice mill-drill,  the problem with machine tools like that is that by the time you add collet chuck, a selection of end mills and slot drills, fly cutter, slitting saws, hold down kit, decent machine vice, a set of parallels, micrometers, centre finder, DTI, coolant pump and God knows what else, you've doubled the price.

Make sure you look into getting ball screws, the slop on those mills is awful (I have the bigger one up).

Absolutely, the ball screws are a must.  The backlash in x and y should be able to be dialed down to less than 0.001, but it sounds like i wont get that for z, but i can account for that in software.   :D
