First Alox Mod.. nerve-racking to say the least.

The beater Alox Electrician and equally tired explorer arrived so I finally have an Alox knife I'm not gun-shy of taking a drill to.

Broke both of them down and then manned up enough to drill out the pins on new Pioneer Solo and Pioneer Harvester.

With this pile of random Victorinox goodness in front of me I began enlarging a few pivot holes to 3mm.

The clock on the wall says that it's past my bed-time so I just threw this together for a quick look.
Still have to make liners, tossing up between brass or Stainless Steel for them... and this is using the crappy old scales.
But you can get an idea of what the Alox Explorer-Pruner will look like.

There you go!  :tu:   :tu:   :tu:

Looking forward to how you do peening on alox and if you have any tips when you master it.  I finally got a smaller hammer which helped, but now I want to make some sort of guard to protect the scales.  Im thinking like a shallow cone of metal with an opening at the bottom just the right size for the rivet head would work.

Seems like a small piece of leather or rubber would work pretty good as a pad for stray hammer blows.

I was considering taking a nail or something, harder than brass and ever so slightly larger in diameter than the pivot pin and devising a way to drill/mill a concave indent and use that as kind of a punch.

I'm sure I read somewhere on here people use ring binder reinforcement rings when peining

That's fantastic, and happens to be very close to one of my favourite tools :D

I'm a big fan of the Alox awl, so couldn't let that one go!

The main donor for this was a VERY used alox Electrician, the blades were both heavily sharpened and the awl was broken off. I would have preferred to have the awl, but I do have another cheap (but not trashed) Pioneer on the way so when I rebuild this to fix the problem with the scissors I will get the awl in there.
Also, the current caplifter has been sharpened as a scraper and the can opener I have used is a 91mm one so I will replace the whole opener layer.

But this first one is more of a learning experience than anything else.
