I’m the same - I’ll always appreciate the Explorer for a variety of reasons. It just hasn’t been the SAK that fits for me lately.

The full 3D Phillips is awesome! But I can usually get by with the can opener and the Phillips on my Rambler.

Here are mine!

On the left is my first SAK from 1997 or 98 when I was a teenager.

On the right is a modern Explorer I bought brand new last year - it’s in my pocket today!

Sorry I misse the May Challenge. Some SAKs too small some too large. Explorer seems right in the middle.

Feels like i should revive this thread given the Explorer is my daily carry.

I took some time to sharpen my wife’s Explorer blades last night and compared the state both ours.  Her main blade has never been sharpened, but boy has she used it. I didnt realize how bad it was until she said something.  Same for the small blade.

Mine is left hers is right.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

She doesn’t daily carry, nor use it as much as me, and yet it’s beat to hell.  I did not realize just how much she’s used hers in the past 2 years since I got it for her.  I know she used it a lot moving into our new house last summer, evidenced by the paint remnants and the well worn Phillips tip.  The only tools she hasn’t used are the can opener, crock screw, and possibly the hook.

It’s safe to say she appreciates it!
