Here is my new 90's Explorer.  I have a "beater" just like it that I carry:

...and an Explorer "family" photo, with knives that, IMO, never should have been retired.

Scientist, Yeoman, Passenger, Explorer, Woodsman:

Nice collection Terry! :salute:

Thanks Mike!  I wouldn't have any of these retired SAKs if it weren't for the generosity and help from my friends here at MTO!

 :multi:

P.S.  Note that the retired knives are all older than the Explorer, obvious from the older type of keyring attachment.  That is, with the exception of the Passenger, which has no keyring.

Nice family Photo there - Should the Modeler be in this shot?

Indeed, the Modeler and Outdoorsman definitely belong in the family.  I would have included them if I owned examples of them!! ;)

All knives in that photo are users with the exception of the NIB Scientist and the Explorer.  The Yeoman, Passenger and Woodsman were all used when I got them, so I figured I might as well just let 'em keep working!

[Aleph78 uses THREAD NECRO] [It's SUPER effective]

Since I finished the makeover on my Explorer, I feel I need to spam about in every possible thread...

Seriously though, I'm beginning to think that this may actually be my new favorite SAK, even surpassing my beloved Huntsman  :ahhh

Hmm... it seems to cost A$25 or so more to get an Explorer Plus rather than an Explorer in Australia. Weird.

Good thread bump.  I said it elsewhere but I'll say it again here; I'm really liking my new Explorer. :tu:  I've also managed to snag one with the new style glass magnifier, though I wasn't bothered by the plastic lensed one TBH.

Wow, over a year since I got my Explorer, I didn't think I'd had it quite that long.  Still like it a lot, even if it is plain old red and not a fantastic yellow. :D

i prefer the yeoman but for saks you can go into the store and buy it's a good one
While I can see why you would prefer the yoeman, I personally like the seperate driver and canopener implements over the compact tool.  For my uses, the screwdriver is a better fit and I find the individual canopener quite faster as well.

Do you find much cans without pullrings any more? I open like 1-2 cans a year,if that, nowadays and then the combotool is more than enough. Since you also have a separate philips on Yeoman the canopener/driver is not necessary in my opinion.
3 layers of the Yeoman is much easier to EDC carry in my opinon without losing much utility, if any.

Most of the chili/soup cans I buy for my lunches don't have a pullring, so my Multitool can opener gets a ton of use.  I really prefer the can opener on my Leatherman though, I don't like the SAK can opener as much.

That said, I carry an Explorer with me everywhere, either in my bag or on my belt.  Fantastic SAK.

Can I post my favourite explorer here?

Green plus scales added.
I also have a red one and a blue one too. (Grey magnifiers)
Love the Explorer, back it up with a Farmer and its happy days,

Demel,
there are Victorinox Explorer type  SAKs with Pliers

CyberTool 34 (no Magnifier but many bits)
Yeoman-Mechanic (Swiss Bianco sold those -but combo tool ipo usual openers)
and of course Swiss Champ (but that's 8 Layers thick )
You could also just add a Leatherman P4 or PS 4 to your EDC Explorer. (Heresy to suggest that, I know).
