Question about st300 pliers in a surge
on: February 11, 2013, 06:02:47 PM
Hey everyone, I just switched my st300 and surge plier heads. I broke the standoffs like I've read, and everything is just dandy. However, the new plier head seems to hit the inside opening tools, preventing the tool from closing completely. It works fine, maybe just a millimeter or 2 of gap due to the inside tools. Is this normal, did I do something wrong, or was the shape of the plier head changed recently (my st300 has date codes of 10/12 and 11/12)?

If you have a look at Metropolicity posts I am sure he talks about it some more , I found that after just a quick look.

Did you remove the blade-locks ?  These are meant to stop the knife blades from deploying while using the pliers, but because they sit under the plier heads they usually stop the tool from closing completely.  Be careful bending the blade-locks (to break them off) it is easy to accidentally pull the retaining rivet out (if I do any more I will hold the rivet in while bending).

I had to adjust the plier head stand-off up a bit to stop the plier head from touching the other tolls (possibly the philips head ?) as you went to close the tool.

What ended up being the problem?

I only broke off one piece of the standoff thing instead of both. I don't know what made me think I only needed to break one...
