Gerber Gator Folders
on: March 30, 2008, 10:39:08 PM
A friend recently gave me a Gerber Gator folding knife (I don't know if the manufacture has changed, but it's American made). Have any of you any experience with these? I just wondered how robust these knives are. Thanks for your observations.

Regards to all, Bill.

Sorry about that, MD. I forgot that there were different sized Gators. It's the large model  with a very wide blade and rubberized handle. I haven't measured it, but the blade's probably 3 to 4 inches. It's a large folding knife. I just haven't had any experience with Gerber knives, just my Legend and to be honest, I'm not crazy about that tool.

Regards, Bill.

I have three Gerber Gators. One is a straight edge gut hook fixed blade, another is a combo edge folder, and the final one is a folder with OHO and a guthook.. They are pretty decent knives!

I've always had good luck with Gerber's knives. I can't say the same about their multi-tools though.  ;)

if it's drop point you just scored, because it's made of 154cm, but otherwise just 420hc.

How old is it? Probably it's before gerber cheaped out and made everything in 420. Come to think of it, it's not even 420HC, just regular 420.

Mine's not the newest model-at least I think it's not, I need to check. It's got a clip point blade, non-serrated and the blade is a dullish bronze-green patina. I'm not crazy for folders, but the fellow was thinking of me and the knife is very comfortable to hold. I understand the knife is a glass epoxy composite or some sort of thing so that's why I was wondering if it's very durable. I may carry it on trips for convenience.

Thanks again, Bill.
