Charge TTi Handle Accent Idea
on: February 13, 2013, 02:22:12 PM
Thought of this last night while trying to make an inlay. Not sure if there is a protective coating on the titanium scales, or if epoxy can stick to it. Was even wondering if one could tap & thread the scale to accept small screws.

Anyhow, had the idea of putting in small rosewood scales inlays into the normal Charge TTi scales' texture area. Could have a 3mm (there abouts) rosewood scale to fit in the textured areas, and the 'Leatherman Charge®' areas would have to be carved out - or removed.

Since I do not have the materials, or a CNC machine, figured would throw that idea out for those of you that have those capabilities and might want some more 'drool fuel' to tease the forum with.  :D

Titanium is not easy to work with.
Usually it does not need to be coated, it develops a hard oxidation layer which will protect teh Ti from further weathering quickly.

To get an idea how it looks:

And btw, they sell soem neat stuff on ebay every now and then.

Those do look handsome, but was thinking of wood inlay plates in place of where the metal ones are on those.

Amazing looking tools though!  :tu:  :D
