Howdy Abstraction!  :)

I see you're considering the Spirit "S" model. Now you do realize that it doesn't have scissors right? Some folks need scissors, others don't.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

How will you know which one you like best if you don't try them all? :P

I resemble that remark.

If you buy two at the same time you would save on shipping. :D

My head hurts through alcohol abuse but i've just send £83 to Tim via paypal, which somehow, though the magic of money conversion, has paid for:

Sapphire Blue swisscard
SwissTool X
Black Spirit

total listing price here in the uk,  about £140 online, and well over £200 in the shops!  Of course even i'm questioning why i needed to upgrade from one crappy multi-tool to two precision engineered Victorinox ones, but sod it, at that price i'm just glad i didn't buy the lot! Thanks for your advice everyone, now i just need to wait for them to fly over!

A Farmer is a 3 layered ALOX Swiss army knife made by Victorinox.  Tim has those as well.  ;)

Well done on the tool purchases.  :)  I think you will be very pleased.

I said i found his site through here  :) but i'll pass on that deal unless i get another order sometime, i've already sent out the money for this order and have a classic SAK about 4 foot away from me so its not an essential purchase for now  :D I think my new tools will more than suffice for the moment, or at least they will when they arrive  :mail:

Will do, Just hope they arrive in my week off work, rather than when im working.  Unfortunately a night commute to london to sit in an office all till the morning doesn't have much use for a multi-tool, well, it does, except you'd need a bloody big swiss army knife to make national rail run on time and not break down.... If it arrives on my week off i can put them through plenty of use, in fact there's so many things i need to do round the house i think i'll put them off for a few days, just so when they arrive there's more to use them on you understand  ;)

Sounds like the perfect excuse to put off all those jobs to me.  :D

One thing to be aware off is that both the Spirit and the Swisstool have locking blades and therefore should not be carried unless you have a good reason to do so.  That being said, as long as you are not waving it around like a wally I am sure you'll be fine.

Yeah, i'm aware of the knife laws around here, if only the ones doing the stabbing would adhere to them  :-[ I don't have any need to take it to work with me anyway, the only places i'll be carrying them are in fields and round the countryside where there won't be an issue.  Besides as you say it isnt the most obvious of locking blades, a multi-tool is quite an ordinary thing to carry around and it's only if you make an issue of pointing out that it has a bloody large shapr and pointy locking blade that it would be a problem.  On the subject of knives this new police knife amnesty is a bloody nightmare. I dutifully handed all my knives in and now I've got nothing to eat my dinner with.

Same ones really, its illegal to carry any locking blade longer than 3", though i wouldnt be suprised if they start banning cutlery soon, how banning such easily concealable things will prevent the ones doing the damage from carrying them i dont know. *grumbles at the state of youth in this country*

It's a simple vote winning exercise, rather than tackle knife crime, just do a large media event and be seen to be doing something rather than actually tackle the route cause of the problem :ahhh

Yep, i'll join in the rant i think....

I was attacked a few months ago at a trainstation, more shocking than the attitude of the kids who were so full of themselves they thought nothing of pulling a knife on me and another guy in from of cctv was that of the police (for the record neither of us were hurt or had anything taken, we called their bluff and stood up to them, they walked off shouting abuse).   After reporting it and giving dates the police got shots off all their ugly mugs from cctv and sent them to local authorities.  Two months later it turns out that these guys were identified the day after they sent out the mugshots, but the booses of the pc's in charge of it wouldnt let them arrest them because 'they had already had too many violent attempted muggings that month' so needed to wait till the next incident book was started so they could avoid making it look like that kind of crime is going up.  Im still flabberghasted about that, and will be taking action once the court case against them is over, no wonder this country is turning to smurf when police chiefs are too bothered about making it 'look like' crime is going down instead of actually making it go down.

And quite a few companies are starting to realise that there is a market for slippies so we still have some options about what we carry.
