To me, that's the value of a Rescue Tool, regardless of the make- it's not only useful to you, it's useful to those around you as well.

If you happen upon an accident, it is helpful, and if you are incapacitated it allows others a greater degree of possibly helping you.  If you wipe out hard on your bike, and a passer by with some first aid training sees it, they could waste extra time cutting open your clothes to get at a wound, but if you have something like a ResQMe tool on your keys, they might spot it and manage to help you that much faster.

Thats true, but in my experience, no bugger helps you these days >:(, every bad bike accident I had (where I was physically blocking the road) I just had cars driving around me, not one single sodding tin top driving muppet stopped to help >:(, and thats the state of modern britain unfortunatly :(

I'm equipped to help myself and to a degree others as well, but carrying a ResQme tool in the hopes that someone else will help me...I wouldn't hold my breath ::)

How do you "re-load" the glass breakers on the ReQMe's?

Just release the pressure- like most spring loaded glass breakers of this type (the ERT-1 is the same), it reloads itself as soon as the pressure is off, such as when the glass is broken.

I can't reiterate this enough though- DO NOT PRESS THE BIG BLACK BUTTON!!!

Maybe a ResQme or the benchmade are the way to go, I can't see why a copper would have a problem with you having either in your car (in the high street yes, as you'll look like a high tech car jacker :D)

Group by on ResQMe's ???
The group buy would be a great idea.I am unfamiliar with English law I can't comment but up here it would depend on the circumstances and if the person had previous convictions for theft

Other than using it as a break in tool I doubt you'd have much luck convincing a magistrate that this was worth arresting someone over:

Not much point in a group buy for these- they are so cheap that any volume discount on them would be negligible!  I think you can get them from EDCDepot.com for all of about $10, and with the April Sale going on....  :pok:

I'm in the process of ordering a couple and the ERT-1.  Marc sells them for $8.95 less 10% for April.

Ben, you'll be happy with the ERT-1, I have one in Yellow and that Benchmade hook on it is bloody sharp :o  It has a nice feel to it aswell, dont let the Made in China put you off, I think the quality is fine. It comes with a nice pouch too :)  I keep mine in the car just incase. The more I read this thread about rescue tools, the more I'm tempted into getting one of those Boker Rescom tools :)

Cool, I didn't know you had one.  :)  Gonna be really cheeky here, any chance of some pics?

I don't have a Rescom (Dunc and Def do though) but I do have a Subcom and it's a great little knife.

No probs. Its a good buy the ERT, i'm pleased i got mine, i've never tried it on a seatbelt yet but im sure it would go through it with little effort. I do hate the wait for stuff in the post though, im sooo impatient, its annoying when you get home and find the postie has delivered a credit card bill instead of a tool isnt it >:D
