I just got my Swiss Champ today!   I got it Brand New off Ebay for 35 bucks free shipping.  I got the Plastic Magnifier version ( I actually prefer reading with this one).

I carry an Explorer Plus as my EDC and boy does it look tiny compared to the SwissChamp. :)   I carried the Champ in my front pocket today and it really was not that bad. The Champ will probably live in the Glove department and be my emergency go to SAK when going out of my everyday Urban environment.

Then again.. I may just EDC this.  I just have to add another notch in my belt to keep my pants from falling.  :)

Try it on a P-7 clip to the front pocket.  It works very well and it doesnt feel heavy. :D

Got The P-7 clip today!   :mail:      With the P-7 clip attached,  you can't even tell you have the Swiss Champ in your pocket.  Plus with the P-7, you have a the whole pocket bottom free.   I was actually carrying my Super Tinker yesterday and thinking what a perfect size and feel in the pocket it was, but the P-7 has made carrying the Champ light as a feather.     If you have the ability to carry 33 tools comfortably in your pocket, with the P-7  It almost seems like you have to EDC it.   :)

I should note the the Gizmo clip I ordered was really not needed. The P-7 and the tiny ring attachment is perfect.

Thanks Sir Mike for the excellent recommendation.

I've had my Swiss Champ for about 15 years.  I keep it on one of the shoulder straps of my adventure pack, along with my PER 179; they make a great combo.  Incredibly useful for longer hiking and/or backpacking excursions.  I had contemplated disassembling it to make a mod, but it's too sentimental to me to do that.

I will be getting a new one, in the next few months, to turn into a mod.  I'm planning on removing the fish scaler and the file, so I'll essentially have an Explorer with pliers and a saw.  I expect that will be the perfect 91 mm camping/hiking SAK.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

Swisschamp and 84mm "Salesman"
Reply #203 on: November 08, 2013, 10:57:07 PM
I gave myself a new (and my first) SwissChamp as a retirement gift.  I like the way it rides in my Levi's RFP: it tends to stand up vertically rather than fall over on its side and lay across the bottom of the pocket.  Very comfortable for such a heavy knife.  I put my 84mm "Salesman" in the pictures just for fun.  I bought it new in 1979 ($27.42 after tax.)  I like the 84mm size and wish there were more options available.

I'm in for a second one.  :)  Newer than my other Champ, but still from around 1991-1995.

Aside from a few small scuffs on the scales, this beauty looks like it saw almost no use at all!   :tu:

Cool! That's the same era as mine. Except for the non-stainless file, it's my favorite generation of variations.

My favorite eras are ´88-´90 (thicker pliers, no hook) and ´99-´05 (latest pliers with crimper, bottle opener with locking nub, but old mag and thick main blade).

Oddly enough, I still never had a a Swisschamp... These photos are beautiful though, especially the wooden handled ones.

I have a question for you folks. How many different wood scaled versions are there? I saw a Rosewood and a hardwood version. Is that it? I'd love the Rosewood one, the dark color looks gorgeous.
