Is the Swisschamp about to get a facelift ?

Swisschamp is an icon and it sells. They shouldn't discontinue it. There is Cybertool 41 and Swisschamp XLT, they could produce another Cybertool somewhere in between.

Basically the answer answer appears to be YES.

There is information that there is an official Vic project to consider the next evolution of the SwissChamp.  We don't know if it will be called the SwissChamp per say, but they have been working on it for a while.  There are other threads that have the official start date of the project, don't have it off the top of my head. 

This is almost certainly why CT41s are not so easy to come by, and why not that long ago I got the fancy champs at bargain prices.  I should have bought more at the time.  Some of this pricing was likely tied also to them disolving their distributor network. and  recently the champ price seems to have stabalized and increased a bit again.

I hope that both stick around, but it's also apparent that the folks at Vic make fairly carefully thought out design moves. I know they lost a lot of knife sales after 9/11 too so they branched out in to other products more. I got the impression that the change of direction somewhat put the evolution of the SAK on hold a bit - maybe they are about to change that now?

I predict the new SwissChamp will have the Cybertool instead of fish scaler AND they will replace the inline driver with a detachable USB drive (paired with the magnifying lens).


That would be a modern SwissChamp to me.

I'd like to see a surprise new tool. Rearranging the tools isn't a breakthrough.
Except if they are considering a VW hybrid with the best of both worlds. That would be something.

I dont mind if they ditch the swiss champ fish scaler, but the rest of it I hope they leave.  For modders buying swiss champs is a gold mine of parts!  I can usually get them for 50ish if Im lucky and that is my cheapest source of the good stuff... pliers, scissors, inline driver, metal saw.   

I also like the swiss champ assembled too though so dont get me wrong, I really hope they release a swiss champ mkII, but also leave the original alone.  Well if I had my wish acgtually it would be to make the mag glass from GLASS again, and not have a plastic frame, but that wont happen will it?

I will add that historically the evolution of the top model (not strictly aimed at collectors), has involved the introduction of a new tool and more.   

Mr. Whippy's idea seems interesting, it seems that some how a flash device should make it into a Cybertool model, if not a 'Top Champ'.

I don't think so. They started the project a long time before announcing the end of Wenger. Before that they seemed content on running each company separately.

It's not impossible I suppose but I wouldn't bet on it.
