Swiss Army Knife should be the first clue!

I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder- we've had this discussion before, and I feel it's more akin to what each device is based on.  We always refer to things as "plier based multis" and so on around here, because there are many tools that don't have a plier as the "main" tool (like the Paul Chen Multitasker) and tools that don't have pliers at all like the Timberline FROG tool.  As such, I like to consider things what they are based on the "main" tools in them.  What counts as the "main" tool is subjective though.  On a SAK, is it the knife blade even though it has a saw, magnifying glass, half dozed screwdrivers etc?  I think so, since it's a knife that does other things.  A PST on the other hand is pliers that do other things, so it's a "plier based multitool."

But then I'm sure you can find at least 700 other opinions on the matter around here!

when SAKs were first made, did they even have the word "Multitool" out?
should auto's and cars be called carriages! "Carriage for sale" section in the newspaper!
isn't Swiss Army Knife a name of a company/division of one?

lol it makes me laugh :D but I want to be clear on it.
I think I remember hearing about that discussion when I first came here,
I don't remember the final words/thoughts.

Swiss Army Knife is indeed a trademark.  Carriage was shortened to car simply because of convenience.  How often do you hear someone talking about their "automobile" these days?

Can you give me a ride to the Mechanical Repair Center as I need to pick up my automobile?

What's in a name?  I see a difference between knives and tools, even though a knife is a tool, but it's just a matter of perspective.

What should we call them?  How about "prepared" or "reliable?"  :D

I doubt we'll ever have any final word.  Do you consider a pencil to be a multipurpose tool?  It writes and erases- that's multiple functions, right?

yeah, when the blue and red wear, silver shows through,
but that's not a problem with it being silver already!

If he's sensable I'd say go for it :), The tool chest might be a tad wide for his little hands though :-\ maybe a camper might be a bit more small hand friendly ???
