I'd imagine by 2021 you can do a lot better than 6 core...
I don't want to spend >€1000 all in on my 2021 computer. :D
The current €100 AMD processor is 4 core. I imagine the 2021 equivalent will be 6 core?
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

I heard a rumour that the latest update is quite important security-wise so it's good to get it installed ASAP.
I'm not sure how much truth there is to that but I have updated anyway.  :dunno:

I didn't mention it, but my new laptop came without windows preinstalled. I created a usb stick of latest version and an old unused win7 license got it sorted quick smart! Best thing is, not preloaded with manufacturer bloatware.

Figure it was time to post an update. Since building my computer system a few months ago, Windows 10 has been nothing but good thus far. No issues with upgrading the OS either. This leads me to believe my 2013 hardware and or drivers were the issue.

I've spent the past few weeks deploying the same image to identical hardware, and the results vary from PC to PC...

The latest Windows 10 upgrade installed on my computer last night before going to bed. Today, I get back on the computer and it competes the install. However, it tried to force feed me Microsoft Edge in a serious way. I did not agree to anything and shut my computer off. When I re-booted it, Edge was in my task bar as well as on my screen. I attempted to remove it but couldn't. I was able to remove both on screen visible links to Edge. I also made sure that Google was not altered, etc. I am sure if I went along with the prompts, I would have selected Edge as my main browser and something equally horrible as my search engine.

The update is version 1909. Just a heads up.

Sneaky sneaky Microsoft.  :poh:

My Edge updated maybe a week ago, it says it's Version 83.0.478.54. I can't be sure but it seems to run a bit better. :dunno:

Firefox is still my default browser and DuckDuckGo is still my deafult search engine.  :tu:

Here is the OS build # for my current update. I am running Windows 10 Pro.

18363.900

I did not like how MS Edge was displayed front and center and did not give me any options to opt out short of rebooting my computer. The choices on the pop up screen was accept and accept. Are things so bad in the US that Microsoft can get away with this heavy handedness without fear of reprisal from watch dogs, etc?

I never liked Edge...even less...Bing.

Found this...

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-sysupdate-windows-updates

Now I am actively looking to see if I can delete Edge from my OS. I figure probably not...but I will look into it.

UPDATE: I found this...a blocker toolkit to disable automatic updates to Edge for enterprise customers. .

something in the new update hosed the wife's laptop pretty good, didn't behave until I updated MS teams, sadly she needs to keep it installed for her Masters revision coming up in a few weeks, but I did both update and keep teams from starting with windows, which is a huge part of the issue. Edge was also very pushy this update.

Shouldn't you just be able to go into the settings of your preferred browser and set it as your default?

Yes.

However, it attempts to trick you into accepting their web browser and search engine via a one way on rails choice...meaning no choice whatsoever. It basically forces you to reconfigure your settings as it gives you no choice in the matter. That is what got me angry about Microsoft's recent attempt at monopolizing.

SteveC, Windows 10 does not ask you for permission. It will feed you updates and do other things in the background all on its own. Microsoft says it is so that all machines out there are updated and get the new bug fixes..but it can be highly annoying. My older computer couldn't get the updates and would crash every-time stuck at 33% install. In fact, that was so bad that I had to re-format every-time towards the end. Worse yet, I could not defray the install for a later time. My new build takes these updates with no issues.

you can now defer updates... go in and keep clicking defer and it will keep tacking on another week...

ah maybe it is just pro, that's what I have on my personal laptop.

If you have an old Win7 pro key laying around you can upgrade I believe? (this is a win7pro key I had that was unused)

I bought the Pro version just in case I had to play that deferral game with the new system.

Looks like I am going to update to version 2004. X fingers.

Update: Went without a hitch. MS still trying to get me on Edge. This time around, it was a suggestion and not a dictate.

bios like pretty much like any driver update these days...

I remember the good ole days where you had to run it from a dos prompt and pray it didn't brick your mainboard... now they have fallover copies and everything
