Bluetooth headsets
on: April 08, 2008, 12:52:55 AM
I'm sick of trying to hear folks on my speaker phone while driving, and it's now illegal in my area to drive while holding a phone to your head (which I rarely did to begin with!) so I am now looking at Bluetooth headsets.

As I know very little about them, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on particular models or features I should look for.

I can't say I know anything about them, but my Motorola one works pretty well and has lasted me a few years now.  It has no moving parts (arms etc) which probably helps with reliability, and it has a good rechargable battery.
I'm back!!

I picked one up today- It's a Sony/Ericsson HBH-PV703:

I was looking at this one or a Jabra model, but this one was smaller, had more talk/standby time and was $5 cheaper, so I took it.  My wife will need one too, so once I figured out what I like and don't like about this one, I will get something better next time and she can have this one.  I know that sounds kinda mean  :D but she's not likely to use it much, so her needs are pretty basic.

Motorola H350

This is the one I use with my LG Rumor... Works pretty good.

I was looking at that one today, and I was leaning towards a Motorola model... but ended up with this one because it's rated pretty high for battery life.

Yes, the h350 is a good one. I still use my Samsung WEP-200 which is super tiny and plugs directly into your ear instead of using an ear hook.  It's a great earpiece but the problem is that Samsung doesn't carry replacement ear loops so once you wear those out, you either try to retro fit other ear loops to it or use an attachable ear hook on it.

Anyway, I have a pretty comfortable headset from Plantronics. I do not know the model but works great with my Samsung D900. And it seems as a rather sturdy little thing as well.

I suppose an update is in order- I got the Sony one and liked it so much I got the same one again after the puppy ate the first one.  I'm not as thrilled with the second one as I was with the first, even though they are the same model.  Go figure.

After I bought the second one, my boss gave me one he wasn't using.  It's a Plantronics model that doesn't seem to work after all, but I find it significantly more comfortable than the Sony one, so when I replace this one I'll probably go with the Plantronics, despite it being pricier.

I got this one for a friend as a birthday present he loves it. It does cost more but worth it. You can use your own head phones, listen to music in stereo, small size clips like a mp3 player. I have the older model for almost two years still ticking.

Has anyone used a Jawbone headset before?  I don't like the look of them but they're supposed to be really good in terms of audio and microphone quality.

Def, also take a look at the Blue Parrot. It is a Hands free headset that utilizes BluTooth Technology. If it is an issue of just in your vehicle Cobra just came out with a Blue tooth ready CB. I feel your pain on the Bluetooth issues. The inside of a Semi can be a noisy place. The Motorolas seem to pick up all of that and make a conversation a chore.

I am still using my Motorola Bluetooth only because it works and I am to cheap to replace it.

I really don't care whether the government says there's a recession or anything- I have too much to do to worry about the affairs of people I don't really care about!  :P
