Damn, I can't decide
on: April 08, 2008, 09:09:49 PM
Do I carry a Juice XE6 or Victorinox Ranger ?

Leaving aside the pliers the I think the Ranger has the edge on the Juice, but those pliers look so handy.

You decide for me   :D

NO I can't carry both.

If you are anywhere near open water, carry the Ranger as the XE6 will cause you to sink like a stone if you fall in!  :D

Carry one one for a week, then carry the other for a week and see which one you are most comfortable with.  Or, you carry one, and the wife carries the other! :D

I'd need the pliers so I'd have to go with the Juice.  But I always twin a MT with a SAK to avoid this very predicament.  :D

Sell both and get a Spirit!!!! :D

If that's not an option I'd go with the Vic. ALWAYS go with the Vic.

I would prefer to carry the SAK TBH, but that way you are lacking the pliers which I use frequently.

Carry the Ranger. All these tools can not really take the place of dedicated tools. Keep a couple of pliers in the car. Or even a separate plier in a sheath. Everything else the Ranger can handle, plus it's a lot lighter and a lot prettier. It also has a small blade which is much handier than a large blade for opening packages.

When you need pliers...there is no substitute.

So carry both!

Get both.  Luckily, neither one are a lot of money

Ahhh, another case of "paralysis through analysis".  Well, unless you have extremely strong fingers, go with the plier based multi.

Unless you desperately need the pliers I would go Ranger.  For a "small" tool the xe6 is actually pretty massive.

Agreed,I had an xe6 for awhile and I found it just too bulky and heavy for pocket carry.I'd go with a Ranger, and have you considered adding either a Gerber Clutch or Squirt P4,if full size pliers aren't a requirement.

I'd prefer the juice. Can't go past the pliers.

That is probably your best bet.  You can pick up Clutches pretty cheaply and twinned with your SAK you are pretty much covered.  I often carry mine or the Shortcut as they are so small they don't get in the way.

Gerber Clutch is a great little EDC pocket tool.  Very compact, lightweight, with excellent LIGHT DUTY pliers.

The pliers are well made and their spring loading makes them a pleasure to use.  Great for handling small items, cutting and stripping small guage copper wire, tightening small nuts, etc.

If you try to use a Clutch to bend or cut a steel coat hanger or loosen a 1/2" nut, then it'll most likely break.

I don't consider that to be a defect, but rather a limitation imposed by the Clutch's small size and weight.

My EDC consists of a Gerber Clutch on the keychain and a Vic Tinker loose in pocket.  Between those two tools, I can handle most situations that come up in everyday life.

Thanks all.  To be honest the Juice is about as small a pliers size as I want to go, i'm not too impressed with the really small plier tools.
I've been carrying the Juice for the last few days, and I think i'll stick with it. I have both so I may try the Ranger next week.

I'm always a lttle surprised when I hear of folk rejecting the Juice because of it's size & weight, I can't say I notice it at all. I wear it on my belt next to my phone which sticks out a but further, so the Juice pouch is hardly noticed.

I think most people are talking about carrying it in their pocket when they comment on size.
