But what about against the competion , I thought the SRK was pretty representative of the heavy duty combat utility knife scene, so how did you find the Gronnie comparing to that

I liked the SRK but it is a big old beast and sort of just "bashes" it's way through everything where the Grohmann cuts gracefully.    I also feel that the smaller handle on the Grohmann fits my hands better and makes it more comfortable to use.

Thats my point, the Gronnie is a very sophisticated blade design that relies on good ergo's and blade geometry, rather than over built strength to get the job done

Still love my SRK though , but I'm pining for another grohmann

You guys need to check the edge angle on yours. I was wondering why mine doesn't cut worth crap, then I did a sharpie test and factory edge were ground at about 50°! I reprofiled them to 40° and it works a lot better now.

I'm disappointed by the steel hardness thou, I think it was way underharden. Makes it easy to sharpen but doesn't stay sharp long either. Imagine the whole thing made in VG10.

Many outdoors type knives aren't "super" steels because they can't be sharpened easily in the field.  I'd rather touch up a blade quickly once a day than have to spend hours once a week getting out proper stones or a Sharpmaker.  They also tend to be a little softer so the edges don't chip when they come in contact with something hard, again because it's easier to maintain.

Corrosion resistance is another factor you have to deal with when looking at outdoors knives, and a healthy helping of chromium helps that as well, while unfortunately making the steel a little softer.

You want to make it into a serious cutter?  Try convexing it.

The super steels can be touched up very easily with a diamond sharpener. I've never had any chips on my VG10 endura, and its polished surface is more rust resistant than leatherman's multitool steel (believe it's 420) in my experience.

If you bring a diamond sharpener with you.  Softer steels can be touched up on a rock, window, mug, bone etc.

Oh come on, diamond sharpener is the size of a pen.

Oh yeah, mug/glass will work on super steel too, just slower, but that's balanced out by super steel doesn't need much touch up to begin with.

Mine cuts pretty well actually.  I am more than pleased with it.
