Leatherman production timeline
on: April 12, 2008, 12:54:19 PM
I had written this chart up in another thread, but here it is stickyfied so it is a little easier to find for those who are interested.

Below is a chart showing when each of Leatherman's tools was first released and when they were discontinued.
(Announcement dates may have been earlier).
Typically I have not included special runs such as anniversary releases, or handle and blade variations

This table also does not include the pure knife based models - eg The Crater, single-handled Juice etc.

That's what I thought.  Especially when you see how many other tools were released during that time.

Hard to believe that for 1st 11 years that they only had PST then Mini Tool.  Ppl wouldn't know what to do if they didn't have to pick from fifty different models

Good work Benner!

Its tough putting together an accurate timeline like this. Introduction dates can usually be found, but discontinued dates are a real bugger. Oftentimes a manufacturer will do a big production run on a certain model, then continue to sell that model for a couple of years until their inventory is gone.

They don't announce the discontinuation usually, that model simply doesn't appear in the next year's catalog. :-\

(take the Gerber Resolve for instance. It was introduced with much fanfare at the 2007 Shot Show, but it took the sharp eye of another member to notice that it wasn't listed in the 2008 Gerber catalog)

Odd how the SC2 was the only Juice to have the "long blades" fold from the end opposite the plier. :-\

I thought it might help to see them all. the models go from left to right bottom row, then top row, and then on to the next pic. that is the order they were released. my chronology is a little off because i kept the families together. a better chronology is found in the first post of the topic. sorry the xe6 is out of order because i misplaced it. enjoy!

my favorite would be the charge ti , al, or tti. I carry the al because it would be the cheapest to replace of the three.
