Swiss Tech Pliers?
on: April 12, 2013, 09:53:01 PM

I know they aren't on the level as multi tool pliers but as for something to keep around to use in a pinch, how are the Swiss Tech 6 in 1 folding pliers? I don't use pliers that often but I like to keep a pair around just in case I do have to use them.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I might be crazy but it's kept me from going insane- Waylon Jennings

They may not be big, but they are solid.

You'd be hard pressed to find a tougher pair of pliers than the Swiss Tech models.

I have the Swiss Tech Micro Plus EX, and it has one of the most solid feeling pair of pliers I've seen on a keychain size MT.

HOWEVER, the pivot connection of the tool's handles sucks hard. They went loose after opening and closing about 4 times. The pressure applied to the pliers will loosen the pivot pins rapidly. It's a fundamental flaw in the design.

The end result is like the old joke: You know what you get when you mix a gallon of crap and a gallon of ice cream? You get two gallons of crap.

The IDL Tools International multitools, which are very similar, don't look like they suffer from the idiotic pin design, but I don't own any personally.

If the pliers are the deciding factor, the IDL tools (T5, T7, and T10) are WAY better than the similarly-sized Swiss Tech tools and competitively priced.

Yes, the IDL tiny pliers are superior. I had the Swiss Tech plier Grant Lamontagne posted, but it doesn't compare to a comparable IDL, which is simply better all around. Pity they're not more common and possibly discontinued.

I have a pair of the 6in1 Swiss+Tech pliers and they definitely punch above  their weight.
You just have to remember that they don't weigh very much... ::)

They're still up on the company website (idltools.com) and still available on amazon.com.
