First few shots with a new camera.
on: April 28, 2013, 04:30:48 PM
I just got a Pentax K01 in the door a few days ago with the 40mm pancake lens. However, I quickly found out that the lens is no macro. I took out instead a Tamron 70-300mm lens that has some macro capabilities.

Do you think they mean lightsabers?

And the new camera.

The Pentax K01 is by all means a commercial flop from what I have read on Pentax forums. Not your typical camera, and in the photography world, non-typical usually means it won't find approval amongst the many. Designed by an Australian designer, it doesn't fit many "conventions". For instance, it is a large camera affectionately known as the "yellow brick" because of the quality of the photographs it produces. Hidden in this sort of ugly camera is Pentax's top sensor found in their top of the line K5. It is rather large and bulky for being a non mirrored camera...but that only allows it to mate with every known Pentax glass out there. That is a huge plus for anyone like me who has a bag full of Pentax lenses. The best part, this camera features focus peaking which is phenomenal in manual focusing. Meaning, this is the perfect camera to pair with some sweet and old manual only lenses. The only downside to this camera once you get passed the camera's quirky nature, is that there is no optical viewfinder. I am somewhat happy with the results so far, especially as I am using a not that great lens in macro mode at that. Colour me impressed with the yellow brick.:)

Pretty decent images from a camera that looks like a toy. Great job, as usual, Chako!¡! :tu:
