Toollogic SL Plier
on: April 18, 2008, 08:57:51 PM
Forgive me if there's already a discussion on this. Searched but wasn't able to find one

Any thoughts on the Tool Logic SL plier? It's new to me. Seems to have the exact same tools as a Skeletool - one hand opening knife, pliers with wire cutter, couple of screwdrivers and a bottle opener. I don't know much about knives, but it seems the way the blade locks (frame lock) is different?

I personally don't like the design, but it is lighter than the skeletool, slightly. Best thing, though the suggested retail is $60, a quick check on online stores seems to put it at about $40 or less.

I'm not quite sure why, but I actually quite like the look of those.  They interest me a lot more than the Skeletool (again, I am not sure why).

Bob and I saw this one at the SHOT Show, but we didn't get much of a chance to look closely at it.  I'm looking forward to getting one in hand to put through it's paces.

Yep, it was an interesting tool to handle. Very comparable to the Skeletool in that it had smallish pliers (with an uncomfortable grip) and a larger than normal knife blade.

I did not realize they were available already. :)

Yeah, I agree - the Skeletool just doesn't appeal to me, but this looks promising.

Weight is decent for the functionality offered.

Has a bigger blade than Skeletool.

Pliers *look* to be more ergonomic than Skeletool pliers, although it'd be hard to tell for sure without actually handling both.

I'd like to play with it but the screwdrivers look kind of flimsy and it doesn't look like they lock. I'd handled Tool Logic products before and wasn't really impressed with the fit and finish. Maybe this one will be better though.

I believe it is of Chinese manufacture, but like it has been shown before, this is not necessarily a bad thing and could still be a well built tool.

The images on the Toollogic site are not very flattering, IMO. They need better photographs

Def and J-sews, how's the size when closed? The picture makes it look kinda bulky.

It ain't bulky. We were only able to handle a rough prototype for a few minutes. My impressions were that in "knife mode" the SL was a very capable tool, sized just about right, with good ergonomics. The tradeoff was that in "plier mode" the plier jaws are very small - even smaller than a Juice - and the grip isn't very hand friendly. (Note the big knob sticking up on the one plier handle)

I think they are not yet available, or at least, the Toollogic site mentions that is coming soon.
