2013 Collection Photos (photo heavy).
on: May 12, 2013, 05:13:38 PM
Seeing as the weather is crappy out today (Where did spring go? Snowing blah blah blah), I decided to cheer myself a little by taking one of those whole collection snapshots. I haven't done one of these in a while.

I will go down drawer by drawer and show you my collection.

I store my collection in my bedroom simply because I had the most space there. My collection resides in 5 storage units most from Craftsman because it was the only series that maximized drawer space by having so many shallow drawers. As the collection grew, I was forced to find better storage solutions and landed on these units. So far, they have worked excellently in keeping most of it all together. I first started with a chest and cabinet, then upgraded to a second when space ran out. Now I expanded into a third unit of the same manufacture (not a Sears Craftsman labeled unit) to keep everything looking like it belonged together.

Here is a closeup of the two cabinet and chest sets side by side. You can see that there are plenty of shallow drawers here...which is perfect to show off shallow items like multi-tools and Swiss Army Knives.

Let's start on the left unit going top to bottom.
At the very top, I have a mixed lot of items here, mostly multi-tool related.

One level down, 3 seperate drawers containing a nice mix of multi-tool related items. On the left is my meager Buck collection, center contains lots of mixed multi-tools, and the left resides most of my Schrade items along with a few other multi-tools.

Next level down comprises of two separate drawers. This one contains generic Ganzo type MTs with a few others thrown in for good measure.

This next drawer contains all of my generic key-chain MTs.

Going one more level down, more key-chain MTs and gadgets....mostly Swiss+Tech.

On the same level as the drawer above, resides the locking plier MTs and a few CRKT MTs.

One level lower, the SOG section.

Next level, hammer/ax/adjustable wrench MTs.

The deepest and lowest drawer of the upper chest contains the Multitasker section.

Now starting on the top drawer of the bottom cabinet, we have the Bear & Son section on the left, and the Topeak and other miscellaneous MTs on the right.

Going down one level, the Victorinox section on the left, and miscellaneous pocket MTs etc, on the right.

Next, Gerber multi-tools.

Even more Gerber items.

Level down, more Gerber multi-tools.

Next up, BG Gerber gear.

Even more Gerber gear along wiith Camillus Les Stroud gear.

Next level down, a mixed lot of items.

Finishing the first storage unit set, the deepest drawer containing most of my sheaths.

Whew! next up is the next storage set.
At the very top of this unit, most of my compasses, some empty packaging, and a few other MTs.

Next up are all of my card style MTs along with many Tool Logic knife based MTs.

On the same level, more miscellaneous items.

Again on the same level, the central deep drawer contains the Victorinox Battle series, and two sets of Zodiac Classic series.

Going one level down, more mixed multi-tools.

On the same level, the same.

Next level, a bit of expansion space, but for now, containing a Canadian MT and a SOL survival kit.

On the same level, a bit of a mixed bag here also.

One level down, Wenger stuff.

Even more Wenger knives.

The biggest and the littlest knives are found here.

Now moving to the top drawer of the bottom cabinet, part of my utility knife collection on the left, and various odd knives on the right.

Next level down, more utility knives on the left, and on the right, Military unit specific knives and flash.

Start of the Victorinox section.

Another drawer full of Victorinox knives.

Lower yet, another Victorinox display drawer.

Going deeper, more Victorinox knives.

Down one level, miscellaneous Wenger and Victorinox knives in their packaging.

Next up, various Victorinox kits, including part kits, repair kits, etc...

The deepest lowest drawer full of miscellaneous Wenger and Victorinox packaged knives, etc...

Now moving to my third unit.

This unit contains my Leatherman section along with a few Swiss Army items. First drawer are the Leatherman Key-chain tools.

Going down one drawer, more Leatherman items.

Next down, Leathermans larger sized MTs.

Next drawer contains most of my Charges.

Waves, and the Kick/Fuse/Blast Family are found in this drawer.

Juices, PST I/II, and other odds and ends are here.

Next level down, Leatherman boxed items and odds and ends.

Another drawer of Leatherman stuff.

Now on the top smaller drawer of the same unit, Victorinox Chinese Olympic commemorative knives.

Canadian Tire Mastercraft collectible tools.

Next level down, more Canadian Tire collectible tools.

Going down one level, a  Victorinox soccer ball.

Lowest level, Various Chinese Victorinox collector knives.

Well that concludes this quick peek into my collection. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did posting it.

Im most jealous of your swisstool drawer.      I love them most above all other MTs, and have started trying to find each model.  Somehow I turned into a small time collector without realizing... :D

Which black oxide spirit is it you have there?  There were 2 I think, the spirit S BO, and the military spirit X version.  I found the military one, but no luck tracking down the BO spirit S.

@Syph007

I believe BO Spirit S models were issued to the Dutch military. Reinier had a couple of those for sale last year. Maybe try contacting him.

Cool pics as always, Chako.

That one is the Spirit s. A Spirit RT is on its immediate left. The flash washed out the black colour of the handles.

Ah cool.  So you need the X model then with crimper still! :D

I'll keep looking for an S BO, and there was that railroad one but I imagine they are rarer still.

So far for spirits Ive got the reg one, the S, the X, the road tour, and cap crimper BO'd military X.  I know there are more variants if I count the different plier heads or if the shield is there too, but I think one of each main type is enough for me.

Holy smurf.  This collection is off the chain.
The Leatherman crunch.  One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass consumption. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Amazing. We are lucky that one of the greatest collections belongs to somebody armed with a camera (and not afraid to use it).

Dan, have you ever considered producing a book featuring your collection?  I think there's a market for such literature for sure - I'd buy the first copy  :tu:

I'm not criticizing in any way, but have you considered expanding on the Victorinox part of your collection?  For example, one of the Alox Pioneers...

If you plan to get more, you should first check the weight tolerances of your floor. You don't want to land on your neighbor's from the apartment bellow bed (unless she's pretty perhaps).

Thank you for sharing Chako. How long have you been collecting? Your organizational skills makes my OCD so happy. Since seeing your toolboxes last month I have decided that's the ideal way to store my collection.
I've looked around but can't seem to find those exact Craftsman chests.  Would you by chance have the model number or link?

I have most of mine in Rubbermaid cabinets, tackle boxes and Plano chests. My more expensive knives are in a 8 foot/7 shelved curio. All this works fine but I have to spend time in the hospital regularly and I worry some hooligan is going to walk off with them. I could use a steel cable to anchor the chest to the concrete floor and at least make them work for it.

I agree, you need a more secure setup for your goodies.  As with most Vic / Wenger collectibles, they are irreplaceable.

When I bought the first two, Sears sold them under their name brand. After trying hard to find them again, as Sears did not sell those models any more, I found out after some intense net searching that they are made by SPG International. The ones I use are from their Classic line.

Nice collection there. I have to confess though that I've used your images as an example to the mrs when she asks if I have too many MTs. It is definitely an inspiration to me though :salute:

Ha, I too have done this.  My collection pales big time in comparison to this, so when the wife sees these pics, she becomes thankful that I haven't taken it that far.  I'd be lucky if it filled one of the smaller drawers.  Your collection amazes me Chako :salute:  I can't imagine the money and time that has gone into such a collection :ahhh
