111mm with 58mm scissors
on: May 14, 2013, 10:40:01 PM
Another proof of concept. Is there a way to integrate a Victorinox mini scissor into a 111mm knife? Yes there is, and it's somewhat a zero brainer... ;)

Take a saw and a saw backspring with space for a backtool and drill the 2mm hole to 2,5 mm using a carbid drill bit.

The result is very nice, i think.

Unfortunately I have no One hand back spring with space for a back tool, so there will be no integration into my hunter atm.

Enjoy:

Question:
Is there a 111mm OH Knife, where to OH-blade has a backtool? (I mean the main-blade. The Hunter XT has a OH rescue-blade with backtool)

EDIT:
Just saw it, stupid me: Sentinel One Hand, Nomad, even the backspring of a Centurion could work. I wish I wouldn't have seen it, now the scissors on my Hunter are in reach.

I have a beat up GAK or 2 i could let you have cheaply, you could use it´s saw layer backspring.
(Maybe i even have a single saw and backspring left, I´ll have to take a look)

No, the Saw-layer won't work, I already tried it.

You can cut off a tipp of the saw layer backspring, so that the knife can securely open. But there is some material missing, so that the knife will have a very poor snap. And I don't like to bend the back spring. Maybe I'll take a pic later.

But thank you, for your offer!

I see, i misread your post. I thought you wanted to integrate a saw layer with a scissor as backtool.
I know, it would not be anything new, but isn´t there a 111 linerlock layer with scissor and Phillips driver?

Sure there is a 111mm scissor/phillips layer. But it's an additional layer, that I wanted to avoid. And the solution presented here is just for fun and show off. ;)

And if it works, I have a 4-layer 111mm knife with 4 different back tools, I regulary use.

Groovy idea, I look forward to it as well!

Reminds me of this thread that has not been developed any further:

More interesting backtool options are always cool!

I think i was exactly that thread, which gave me the idea to try it on a 111mm knife.

The really cool thing is:
Just drill the hole und use a saw backspring with backtool space. The snap is already perfect, the tool hides just in place, but you reach the nailnick. The width of the mini-scissor is good enough. All in all (as mentioned before) it's a zero brainer.

If It's useful or not, I'll see very soon. When I (again) reassemble my Hunter. Hopefully for the last time.

Here we are.

I had to carve my hook a little bit, to reach the nail nick of the scissor more easily, but it worked.

My tool configuration allowed me just those positions of hook/scissor. To everybody else I would recommend to have a liner next to the scissor's nai nick.

By the way, if the scales look heavily used. I accidently threw my knife into fire last trip...., ;)

Enjoy:

I harvested a Sentinel OH to get the backspring for main blade with liner lock.

Edit:
I updated some pice here.

Good job.
Are the scissors easy to use? Been in the middle of the tool.

Has anyone tried the opposite ? A backspring awl or chisel (or hook or corkscrew...) in a 58mm frame?

Ive seen Sean Dooley (SakCustom58) do the phillips driver from a 91. The corkscrew would probably work too then. And Ive seen Noel Kunz do the awl. Maybe one day I will try a 58 with back spring tools but Ive yet to be bothered going to the effort :P
