A little light porn...
on: December 02, 2006, 07:48:09 PM
And no, I don't mean softcore!  These are some of the lights I always have handy.

First is a Fauxton light with my Wenger Nail Clipper, then a couple of shots of my new Stanley Tripod light.

The Micra is thrown in for scale on most of these...

Here we have my Tripod and Peak light, followed by a Surefire 3P and Inova X5, then in the last pic, closeups of the heads of my two Streamlight Twin Tasks, which switch back and forth from 3 LEDs or one superbright incandescent bulb, that I think is Xenon, but I am not sure.

What light porn is complete without a colorful rainbow of Mags?  This is only a small sampling of the Mags I have around the house.  If I hunted them all down for pictures, you'd never see me again.

Last is my Victorinox AA LED light and a small keychain sized LED light from Rotokid's shop on SOSAKOnline.

I have lots more lights around ranging from LED lights to cheap hardware store lights too, but these are the most interesting ones.

Oh yeah, it's adorable!  Pretty bright too.  And the best part is, it's really inexpensive and amazingly light.  Even with the batteries in it's less than .7 oz, or less than 20 grams.  Of course, the drawback to that is that the entire thing is plastic and feels like it would get beat up really easily on a set of keys.  Of course at less than $10, you could get quite a few for the cost of many of those other lights.

It's a great little conversation starter if nothing else... and a fascinating little doodad that works.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

Ive ordered one, its so cute looking, it'll make a nice desk ornament even if its too big to replace my LED keyring.

Hehe I know how you feel. I went and bought one of the larger sized stanley tripods myself, the titanium looking one (I believe a newer model than the black ones) which takes 3 AA batteries, so not a keyring LED light, but a pretty small one anyway which should hopefully give otu a fair amount of light.

I think mine is great.  It can't compete with the high performance lights, but for under $10 the other lights really can't compete with it either!  I have been strongly considering one of the bigger models as well but I have to wait a bit until I am a little less broke!

Is that Peak you pictured an Atlantic, Mediterranean or a Rainier?

Unfortunately, the only way you can tell is to compare output or runtime.  Otherwise, the three are identical in appearance.

The Atlantic is the dimmest (760cp), followed by the Mediterranean (1250cp) and the Rainier (2000cp).  The Atlantic will run about 2.5 hours on full regulation (without dimming), the Mediterranean will run 1.5 hours fully regulated, and the Rainier is direct-drive, so will begin dimming very quickly, but it's BRIGHT!
