Has anyone tried the LM Ratchet Driver in the PocketWrench II? I have been looking at upgrading from a simple 1/4" extension to hold bits in my PWII to it to make the tougher jobs easier.

You will need to devise a spacer to keep the PWII from sliding too far down the shaft of the ratchet.

I also found a tool from Japan (made in Taiwan) that looks lime a cross between the PW and the Piranha:

Nice collection indeed   :like:

That packaging and the clearance sticker is interesting. Were they 1.99$ originally?
Did no-one want to buy them?   :dunno:

What's the story about the Pocket Wrench trad° ?
Is it any good?  :pok:

Oh, and you need a stainless USA Latshaw still ?

Perhaps they were being made in Taiwan cheap enough to be sold for $1.99?  :dunno:
I doubt the PWs made in the US sold that low.
And I don't know why no one wanted to buy them, but I feel that I myself would not have appreciated the PW II's utility 10 years ago. I know better now after using one.

The tradR Pocket Wrench is sold by Misumi. It is showing as unavailable on the UK site and is temporarily unavailable on the US site. I might be lucky that I was able to order one.

Then again, it came in just this week, and I have not had a chance to try it out. So, it may not very good. I can tell that the ridges or teeth are smoother than the PW II CV and are more like the Taiwan version. If it can grip nuts well enough, it should be able to handle a wider range of nut sizes and situations. On the minus side, it can't be used as a prybar or a screwdriver.

Yes, that is the main version that I am missing. I have missed out on two of them on eBay so far  >:( , but I think I can snag one eventually.

I found that it worked well.

It could tighten this 5/16" bolt:

After I had started this 5/16" drive screw by other means, I was able to screw it into the wood 1" deep with no problem, and there was no problem with backing it out:

I was also able to torque down and loosen this 1/2" bolt:

Also, the trapezoidal hole in the middle will firmly engage with a 1/4" bit driver:

I think it is a solid wrench  :tu:

This is where you suffer the consequences of not sharing your brownies with me  :td:

Actually, I have thinking about the logistics of getting this wrench to members who are interested in it. Unfortunately, it isn't available at this time.

I ordered mine on 12/20, and the order was fulfilled on 12/28. I don't know why it is now temporarily unavailable in the US (they fulfilled a large order?), but maybe they will be available soon.

I know the forum has done limited runs of some multis from various companies. Does anyone have contacts anywhere that might be able to crank out some PWs (or PW-esque tools) for us? From my laymen's perspective, they're awfully simple. OTOH, they're pretty popular in some of the other EDC groups I'm in, so there might be a market for someone to bring them back for more general production if given a nudge?

Would have to investigate who (if anyone) holds the patent on them today.

While they don’t look terribly complicated, getting the teeth done right so they actually grip could be a hurdle.  Also, the best versions of the PW are/were hardened to withstand years of use.

The main reason they have the fans/following that they do is that the USA-made ones are really solid well-built tools.  The challenge was and is that quality costs money, and the pool of folks willing to pay the cost of a decent pocketknife for a OPMT is limited.

As noted above, if anyone wants one, best bet is to keep an eye on the ‘bay.  They do show up there lightly used and even new sometimes for not crazy sums.

I think nate is right. The best chance would be to get in contact with a manufacturer of an actual model that is still produced, like the Misumi one, if there is an interest in it.
