Not progress, but very sad indeed. Sometimes I feel we are going backwards instead of forwards. The world scares me, and it should scare anyone....with good reason. I Was comming home last night and there was a cop in front of me, the speed limit is 45 and the cop slows down to 30-35 and I am asking myself why? what does he want? does he want me to pass him so he can pull me over? I just stayed the same speed he was going and stayed behind him and eventually he put on his blinker and turned off on a side road. But it makes me wonder, what was he thinking and what would have happened if I had made the first move? And me carrying knives and tools on me and in my car, what would become of that? *shudder* I don't even want to think about it, even though I live in GA and the cops in Baxley are pretty good, I got a cop I can call on his cell if I get in trouble, etc. BUt still....ya never know.

On the other hand, today's students bring firearms to school to settle scores.  In the last century, we used fists and the results weren't fatal.

Dave- I wouldn't be too worried about a cop pulling you over if you pass him because he is below the limit.  As long as you are under (or even a reasonable amount over, especially if passing) you are safe, and if they did try to pull you over, it would be entrapment.  More likely he didn't like the glare from your headlights in his rear view mirror!

And most cops hate paper work, as do most people.  If he did see your multitool I doubt he would say anything other than "Hey, that looks cool- can I see it?"  Filling out that much paperwork, and going to the effort of pulling over a guy doing the speed limit, then charging him with posession of pliers is probably more energy than he was willing to go to.

When I was in seventh grade I witnessed my gym teacher brilliantly handle a fist fight between two of my classmates while he was taking roll:

The two belligerents were standing toe-to-toe and beating the snot out of each other in the middle of the gymnasium.  They had plenty of room and weren't hurting anybody except each other, and they were both still going strong so there was little danger of any serious injury.

My gym teacher watched them out of the corner of his eye, but he just continued to walk down the rows while checking names off on his clipboard.  When somebody pointed the fight out to him he literally waved it off and calmly continued taking roll.

When he finished taking roll he carefully set down his clipboard, removed the whistle lanyard from around his neck, and took off his wrissmurfch.  He then strolled over and told them to stop fighting.  These boys had been throwing and taking punches for a good five minutes, so they were exhausted and quite happy to comply.  He then told them to remove their shirts and use them to keep any blood from dripping onto the floor while he walked them to the principal's office.

The two boys were suspended from school for three days (which amounted to a three-day vacation) and they were minor celebrities when they returned to school.  They weren't exactly the best of friends after the incident, but they had clearly gotten any fighting out of their systems.

I'm only thirty years old, but I look back fondly on the good old days.
