From True Stories, the SAK Owner's Manual:
"the guest on a German 1998 TV show who bet that he could open 10 cans with an SAK opener faster than an opponent with an electric opener -- and won"

I'm pretty good with the tin opener......I use it in preference to a dedicated opener. It just takes a bit of practice.

Good, now do it with a Wenger. :pok:   Also, nice to hear your voice. :D

I'll try to make a video tomorrow with both. I expect to be better with a Wenger. I have more practice with it.

Specify which saw? :D 85, 91/93, 108, 111, 120 or 130 mm? Or are we doing multitool saws too. :D

We might do something like that officially in a month or so. ;)

OK, I'm about average with the dedicated opener on the 91-111 model, BUT did manage to saw the top off with the serrated main blade on my black Trailmaster in about 5 seconds. Why I would ever need canned food that quick is beyond me.

A little messy, and have a sharpener ready to touch up the blade.

WOW!   I guess they should have removed the can-opener from the new Soldiers, 5 seconds is amazing, messy or not one may not want to mess with the can opener other than maybe 1 cut to drain some cans if the food is packed in a liquid.  A  :salute: for ingenuity.

Not so ingenious on my part, I remember a TV ad for Ginsu knives where a guy cut an aluminum can in half, then proceeded to slice a tomato very thin. A tin can is a little tougher, but so is the Vic. One does need a serrated blade and either a lock or a fixed blade to do it efficiently. The Vic will cut thin aluminum without a resharpening too, but that again is another story... :D

I was very good but now I can't find a traditional can to use the tool.
Perhaps I could use it on the bottom plate! Now, that's an idea!

Ok so I tried to make a video but failed - I need either my other half to video for me and her to mock me (she does not understand :() or to get a makeshift tripod.

I opened another can today with the 93mm pioneer and found it a little slower than the 111mm.

but still well under a min ;)

Now do it with the old Wenger 'Z' or 'dog-leg' can opener.  Don't forget to include the time taken to bandage your fingers.  :D

SAK Olympics totally needs to happen. :D

Just timed myself on five different 16 oz. cans whilst making my weekly pot of chili. Using the Pioneer:

1. 20.34
2. 20.11
3. 16.99
4. 18.54
5. 17.98

If I don't get any 'hangers' or missed sections I can go pretty fast.

Dunno about how fast, but when I was moving a bunch of my stuff from my old place, the soon-to-be-next-wife befriended a stray cat, and asked if I had any food for her, and it turned out I hadn't cleaned out the pantry yet, so I come out with a can of tuna and my Alox Soldier.  Opened it up quick enough to impress her, and score another check in the column of why I was better than her exes.

Just conducted another experiment in can opening. This time with the combo tool on the Compact.

Another five 16 oz. cans.

Top three times were:

16.91
18.00
18.19

I was surprised. I thought for sure the combo tool would be slower than the dedicated can opener.

I found I can get longer 'strokes' with the combo tool, so that may have helped.

I'm much faster with more of a Leatherman or Wenger can opener. I'm trying to practice with the vic can opener right now.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the Vic or Wenger can openers is better (when used as a can opener)?

I think people do have opinions about it, yes :P And mainly, I believe, it's just a matter of what preference. Both have their supporters. It also depends  a bit on what you're used to using, as they do work in quite entirely different ways.
