So today I went to the Victorinox shop London to build my Farther's Day Spartan  :tu:

This was a great experience and for someone who does not mod and gave me a great inside in to whats involved and how a SAK fits together  :D

They actually let me have two goes as the on the first attempt the second layer spring came un-alined when hammering the rivets down, the affect this has was then the cork crew opened it shut with no tension and was lose - then when I opened the main blade it locked the cork screw in place.

Then on the second attempt everything fit together like I had made 100 of them  :tu: - I then asked the lady if I could keep the failed attempted and she yes

I have added a few picks for you all - sorry about my ugly boat race -

Oh and I decoded on the see through scales as you can then see my handy hammer work on the rivets.

Translucent Red/Blue and Standard Red and Black.

I was all for Standard red but me partner said it would be best to get translucent so I could see my handy work lol

Great stuff - I'm going there next week to make mine! Glad there's a couple of scale options, I might go with one of the translucent ones...

That's a fantastic feature for the shop to have.
Is this a one off special for fathers' day* or is it a permanent thing? And will they let you do anything other than a Spartan?

Neat to see the tools they use, thanks for the pics!  So how does it form the rivet, is it manual hammering, or powered?

its all a manual hammering process - the hammer has a criss cross design (a little like a meat tenderiser but not as raised).

I have some video of this process if you like :)

Thinking about it I should have taken some close up of all the different elements but I am sure when I go back I can take some more pic.

I love the fact they let me keep the knife did not turn out so well - she said that sometimes she can make up to three knives with people as the springs don't always stay put and come lose during the hammering process (there is a correct place to hold the knife during this step)

Its permanent thing as I understand - At this time you can only make the Spartan - I did suggest that a swiss champ should be available to make :) but its all about how long it takes and their time spend with you I suppose.

I was there just over an hour.
