I have seen these floating about on fleabay for ~£1.50 delivered from china. I though I would buy one as I have always been curious about the design but not £6.50 curious.
What arrived was not a TU-47. It was in fact a knockoff.
It is a 'multifunctional pen keychain tool' apparently made by a company called sudong. No, their website does not exist. According to the internet archive, the domain appeared sometime in January 2011 but was never used.
The printing on the packaging is quite poor, although the blister pack is of average quality.
The tool lists it features as:
1. Tweezers
2. Medium screwdriver
3. Large screwdriver
4. Thread cutter
5. Nail file
6. Bottle opener
7. Finger nail cleaner
8. Eye glass screwdriver
Here is the back.
Thankfully the names of the various functions are etched onto the steel.
Unfortunately on my one here there appears to be a defect on the thread cutter. 10 seconds with a little file solved that.
It appears to made of an unknown grade of stainless. The grain looks similar to the metal used on my crunch knockoff. It assume it is a stamped part. It is made from 1mm sheet and is 5mm wide.
The main feature of this item I guess is the bottle opener. But lets be honest, EVERYTHING is a bottle opener. It is all about technique.
This fact renders this little thing more or less pointless.
Apart from the manufacturing defect, I cannot imagine how the official one could be any better. In fact I would wager a beer that this probably came from the same production line with less quality control.
It now resides on Mrs xt60043f's keyring. She has still to find a use for it.

The Leatherman crunch. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass consumption. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
