Rangergrips. Help me find the right one.
on: August 02, 2013, 06:33:06 AM
Hi Wenger fans. I'm a complete SAK novice. I don't have any currently, but still have lots of respect. In fact, I hope to get my first in a couple months - a Swisstool CS plus.

Anywho, I'm also very intrigued by the Rangergrip series but in no way can tell them apart. Can anyone help? I know I do like the look of the 90. I'd like it to have pliers (not a deal breaker) but love that knife design with the giant hole for easy deploy.

Thanks in advance for any and all new knowledge!

You can see the whole current Ranger line (including but not limited to Rangergrips) here:

http://www.wengerna.com/ranger

Does that answer the question, or did you have something more specific in mind?

I love the Swisstool and especially the Spirit.  Both should be great purchase target, if you like quality tools.

I like RangerGrip series too, but usually prefer it more for outdoor use or collection purposes.  And personally, I'd like them without the pliers since it might make the whole tool width a little too wide to hold.(I consider my hand size average, usually M to L size glooves for me)

For purchasing SAK, I often find SAKwiki to be a great reference.  Usually I would browse the gallery of the desirable length of the tool, find some direction, then research more on the particular models and similar models to find what I like best.  Pretty much a Bottom-up approach.

The SAK selector at the Swissarmyknights also does wonder, it is a top-down approach, and if you know what exactly you want, this is the quickest way to find it.

There are some more models available on the European market. You can find most of them on german eBay and they ship to the US too.

And the SAKWIKI pages for 130mm knives

You are pretty much confined to that model, if you were looking for both the pliers and the one hand opening main blade (I guess it is the "giant hole" you were referring to).
I'm not considering few models only available in Eastern Europe.
