Does anyone have any recommendations of a lubricant for folding knives with Zytel handles?  For my SAK's I have always used mineral oil, but should I be doing anything different for these knives?  I am mainly referring to my Cold Steel Voyager and Twistmaster.

Thanks.
I'm back!!

You probably wouldn't benefit much, if at all from having a lubricant in there- probably the opposite really.  Liquid lubrication traps gunk in the joint and then dries, cementing the blade in place.

Clean it good, run some waxless dental floss through the joint and keep it dry and clean.

Def
Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

I just use thin vegetable oil :), that way there's no worries about food/you contamination :), plus if it goes gunky just wash it out and replace it :)

To be honest though for your Cold steels I wouldn't really bother, just keep them clean :)

I wouldn't use vegetable oil, it go rancid overtime and gunk up pivot. Personally for knives I can disassemble, I do that and apply anti seize to pivot, otherwise I use motor oil.

I've been doing it for over 18 year's and I've not had any probs, but I do clean my knives regularly anyway, and only ever use a tiny bit of thin veg oil anyway :)

Then it's not a problem :), but if you leave the stuff in there it'll become goo.

WD40 is classified as solvent, not lubricant.

I use it on my MT's, but not on my SAK's. When I sent in my Wave to be repaired it came back with WD-40 on it so if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.  :D

I just use thin vegetable oil

so at the meet up, that "special" smell will be MickyD!  :ahhh :pok:
I'd use mineral oil for food use knives.

I like Break Free CLP (cleans, lubes, protects) or rem oil (they also have a nice dry lube).
and like said, wash em and keep em clean, especially after use, and you should be fine.

Is this because MT can be used bone dry, but SAK's are designed to be oiled?

Anything from victorinox with the mirror finish doesn't really need lube. My first sak was never lubed and works perfectly.

They certainly don't need a lot.  I use mineral oil on mine and you only need a very small amount.

I like to use Tuf Glide or a Tuf Cloth on my knives/tools. Using a very thin layer it protects, cleans, and lubricates.
