Seeing as we'd have no home without him, it sounds like we are definitely way past due.  Thanks for letting us know!

This is in no way a gift taken from us, but I consider it a gift received.  Please send him all of our regards.  Thanks Boss!

It's always OK to break "the rules" as long as you have a good enough reason, and that is certainly the case in this instance  :tu:

Chances are we would have found another home, and likely with another terrible server company like the one we were trying to leave.  Price was a huge factor, and Guido was well outside of our price range.  Even so they ended up finding us a workable solution and we couldn't sign on fast enough.

We might be paying more with Guido than we were with Serverloft, but we are getting a heck of a lot better service, so all in all a more than fair trade.

great service at a fair price is better than fair service at a great price,  especially in the IT world.

When you consider that the sites were constantly outgrowing the hosting we had be it with Belaxis or with Serverloft and we were paying for non managed servers, now with Primerelay we are getting managed servers. This allows the Primerelay team to do what they do best, and us to focus on the content and keeping the site software itself running smoothly rather than having the additional burden of maintaining a server secure as well.

We're paying more for a lot more resources as well, and I think overall the sites are finally running better than ever. There has been the occasional outage, but usually short lived (and in the server world nothing is 100%) and at least we get a human response, not some colocation drone message when something goes wrong. They work with us to find solutions, not let us hang and keep bleeding the hosting fees while things get worse.

When Guido found out about his tumour his partner was pregnant with their 2nd child, she was already going through a very bad pregnancy, and was in and out of hospital regularly. You can imagine the news that the father of her children had a potentially fatal tumour put her immediately back in the hospital as well. The type of tumour typically metastasises to the lungs, once that happens, it's pretty much a no return situation. While waiting to hear the news even I was pretty depressed about the situation, it just didn't seem fair. It was a pretty heavy few days but eventually we found out the good news that his lungs were clean, and he was going to start a round of medication to shrink the tumour down before they operate to remove it.

There is so much more to this story, but I think we've perhaps shared too much already so out of respect I'll leave this here.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Just to bump this one back up.... I completely forgot to post this message I received from Guido when he (finally!) got the OHT:

Quote
Hi Grant,

Many thanks for the fantastic gift you got me!

What a stunning piece of gear! I am not sure if i will ever use all the features it comes with (unless i run into a bear or smth) but it has served me well over the past couple of days when I have been reworking some computer equipment.

Naturally its first task was opening a bottle of beer :)

I cant wait for my two girls to grow up and take them on their first outdoor adventures but im sure i will enjoy it for many more moments in the time to come.

Thanks again for the pleasant surprise!

Wow, yeah!
Guido.

It's always good to give to someone that has provided help in your endeavors. When the person receiving the gift expresses their appreciation you've received the ultimate reward.

It's also satisfying to know that you've created a new multi-tool-guy.LOL

All I can do is add my voice in approval  :tu:  Very proper use of a resource for not only the members but LM as well. The Good Will - Positive vibes - Mojo will be forever part of Guido's story when people he come in contact with say "Hey, that's a really cool tool! Where did you get it?"

Proud to be a small part of a group like this!  And all the best to Guido and his family and business!

Just found this thread and would like to add a couple of thoughts...
1st- Very classy move Grant. Best wishes to Guido and his family.
2nd- And equally as moving, is all the approval and well wishes from the selfless, genuine members here at MT.O. This is the only forum that I belong to. Grant's gesture, and the group's response are exactly why, this is the only forum I belong to.  :tu: to all on this one.
