U might try a ZUNE. They have them in a small size like the nano and in 4 and 8 gig . I have the ZUNE 30 gig and i love it. All ZUNEs have video so it is there if you want to use it. They also have wireless sync now and the ability to share wirelessly songs and pics with friends who have a ZUNE. The ZUNE also has an FM radio built into it.
Check one out.

Nothing really outperforms an ipod, but I do very much like the zunes. I should restate: nothing outperforms, and few if any really underperform. The better brands are roughly equal in so many ways that only the little features and looks make much of a difference these days.

Those little flash zunes are great though. Zunes have podcast support now, and a great interface. I find the click/touch interface on the zunes to be much more intuitive than the ipod; I often feel the ipods are so user friendly that they're built for retarded monkeys. It's so simple it's actually too simple. with the zunes I don't have that feeling.

They also support the windows lossless encoder, so yet one more advantage of the ipods is mute.

I have an answer for your question asking if anything outperforms an iPod. NO!!!

You gotta be kidding me, a Zune? If you have a Zune slather it with Preperation H and use it as a suppository!  :twak:

Just get another iPod and enjoy your life.

Not the new ones
And actually I quite liked my old zune; the only reason I returned it and got a pod is because of the then lack of podcast support.

Did it just die on you??

Mine won't turn off now and I'm looking for an alternative too.

As an uncle to an 11-year old whose Ipod just died and which I brought back to life with Apple's help, I must ask:

Did the Ipod actually die, or did it freeze up? My niece's Pod locked in the "off" position and seemed dead. I didn't know they did this. You can bring some of them to life following the instructions on Apple's Pod site. Just offering a bit of info in the hopes it might help.

It died - the click wheel was replaced as well as a new battery for $75, included shipping both ways.
