I saw this on my second favorite tool website.

http://toolguyd.com/dewalt-multi-tools/

The initial thoughts, meh.....

Probably will be a great collector's item since I don't think they will catch on.

The "keychain" tool is a a really unique looking piece, being that it's central tool is the cap lifter. I can't say I have ever seen one quite like that. Being three inches long, however... that's not really keychain sized IMO.

The 3.5 inch tool looks pretty neat, but I can't stand combo blades, especially that short.  It might be worth trying though, it still looks better than a wingman!!

I was at Home Depot (two different Home Depots in fact) yesterday and I didn't see these anywhere.  If I spot them I will certainly grab them.

From the article ...

Quote
Dewalt’s new 16-in-1 multi-tool looks Leatherman-esque, and features outside-opening tools. On one hand, this means quicker access to tools, but on the other hand it means a smaller knife and a greater potential for tool-clumpage during deployment.

Why does outside opening mean more clumpage?

The keychain tool looks way out of proportion, but the pliers based tool doesn't look too bad, and I'd be interested to hear first hand reports on it. I agree with Sean that it would be better with a plain edged blade at this size though. The rule seems a little pathetic as a tool choice too, and I'd be concerned about the "weak" scissor spring that has seen numerous fatigue failures on the Squirts, Styles and Dimes.

Lets hope someone here can grab one and give us a users perspective  :tu:

It's nice to see a low end MT that isn't knocked off the Ganzo/Kobalt/Sheffield (wherever those designs come from... the seem to turn up everywhere) mold.

I agree.  I am kind of sick of seeing the same old tool rehashed over and over again.

It was because of the popularity of those tools that MultiTasker designed their Series 1 with that handle shape.  Frankly I think it was one of the most uncomfortable handles out there.

Puts one in mind of the suspension, and I agree that handle design is terrible.  I was kinda wondering why Multitasker went that route.

The phillips driver doesn't look overly rounded on that MT, that'd be a nice enough thing to see on more cheaper MTs.

It seems that the Black and Decker / Dewalt company is going into multitools.

I saw a B&D, in their orange colour, yesterday at a DIY shop, but forgot to take a picture.

Clamp shell packaging.

It is most likely this one from here: http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=874933
(I will take a picture /price/better look next time)

It looks like a Ganzo product, with a colour similar to the Bahco orange multitools.
It did look nice.

Shane Keng, the man responsible for the MultiTasker is a very gifted designer with a lot of interest in firearms.  The MultiTasker was an extension of that, as he wanted all the gun cleaning and maintenance tools in one package.  However, there is more to designing a multitool than cutting down your Otis kit and a few screwdrivers and bolting them to a pair of pliers, as he found out.  He told us a while back that he basically used the most common handle design he saw since he didn't know what else to do, and that is why they have the same shape as the Ganzo type tools.

This one is confusing.  Why does it open?  I cant see any point to that since the end tool is a bottle opener.

So you can get the tools out of the handles  :P

I suppose that makes sense.  Mulititasker tools don't do anything for me personally, but as a longtime metal craftsman(professionally and for fun) I can appreciate the skill that was used in their creation.

Just got mine yesterday from amazon, and for less than 12 so far I'm impressed.Decided to throw it in my hunt pack this morning and I'm glad I did.  Tools open easy and quite. Had to change my battery in the range finder.

Nice to see it getting some use.  Here are my thoughts on it:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,57587.0.html

It isn't bad at all, and I feel that if it had a better brand behind it (not that there is anything wrong with DeWalt, just they are not a multitool manufacturer) I think it would have gone a lot further than it has.

For the class it is in (China made tools under $30) it is very good.

I agree,  the pliers are actually decent and can take a little bit of pressure.  Of course it's no Leatherman,  but it doesn't come close in price either.  I'm going to use it the rest of the weekend here in camp and will report back.

So I didn't get any pictures,  but I do feel this tool is worth every penny.  I know some people complained that it didn't have a sheath but it's not that type of tool. You're not going to compare it to Leatherman, or replace it, it's a type of tool that you're not going to use everyday, rather just throw in your bag and leave it there and you're glad you have it once in awhile. The pliers worked well to tighten smaller items, such as my practice tips in my arrows. The file did a nice job to remove a burr on the tip. Being bright yellow helped me easily find it in my bag.

I had the same impressions of it. Definitely a bag tool. Although the Gerber MP400 Sheath with fit  for a back up tool or needing quick pliers the DeWalt tool does the job. The wire cutters are stronger than most cheapos too. Looking forward to more of your thoughts :tu:

I agree with you.

The ergos on it kind of suck, so it's great for occasional, short use but I wouldn't want to use it every day.

On the flip side, it is one of the better examples of a non- mainstream brand tool.

I'm glad to see that it has been working for you in the field.  You are right- the yellow makes it great for keeping in a bag or glove compartment.
