Hello from a SAK collector in Sydney - Love this forum
on: September 18, 2013, 05:33:20 AM
Hi Fellow Multitool Nutcases,
I have been a non member viewer of this forum for a few months now.
I have found it an amazing source of information and you guys are such enthusiasts (or dare I say fanatics!) and have such a wealth of knowledge and also a great sense of humour.  :) So thanks for all the amazing posts that you have made over the years.
... And of course I just had to join you.

I have been a penknife (as I used to call them) carrier probably for more years than I care to admit (OK about 45+) since my Dad first gave me a penknife as a young boy.
I reckon I got my first Victorinox about 35+ years ago - My family always teased me at that time, as I was always loosing my knives in my late teens/early twenties. However I got a Victorinox Hunstman in the late 70s and carried it for about 30 years or so, until it was stolen by some house removal men. >:( I replaced it then mangaed to get that one 'stolen' by airport security a year or so later

Long story - But this is how I got into collecting SAKs. I was searching the internet to replace my Huntsman and found all these other wonderful SAKs out there and just had to have some more. :climber: I also discovered Wenger at this time - Previously I just knew there were some other SAKs around with a different kind of a cross!! I grew to really like Wengers and am sad that they are soon to disappear. Athough understand why this is! And would do the same myself if I was Mr. Elsener.

I am particluarly interested in the old SAKs eg the original Soldiers and Officers Knives and the evolution of the tools.
I also discovered Leathermen (Leathermans) about 8 years ago and love these tools for heavier duty jobs, keeping in a kitchen drawer (to save getting out the toolbox) and camping etc. My main one is a Wave.

My EDC was always a Huntsman with a Classic on my keyring - I am quite an outdoorsey person - so this knife is just great. However I have an office job and since I discovered the Wengers I typically carry a Wenger Traveller (classic 6 blade SAK tool set plus scissors). I like the smaller knives in length and width and weight for a work trouser pocket and everyday SAK jobs. If I am hiking, camping etc I will carry a Huntsman or one of my other larger knives.

Well what a long intro - Wonder if anyone read this far!!

Great to join you and looking forward to being a member.

I'm also in Sydney, not really a big SAK collector but a big Leatherman collector.

G'day mate, and welcome aboard.  Enjoy the journey (and watch out for the insidious "collection bug", he seems to bite a lot of people around here - to the long term detriment of their finances)

Well hi there. :waving: Nice to have you with us.

Good choice on the Wenger Traveler. It's one of my favorite too.

As as for the Leathermans/Leathermen thing .... I think it should be Leathermans as they aren't actually men but the last name of the owner/manufacturer.
