Cold Steel Canadian Belt Knife

I saw this on EDCdepot just now, and I was wondering how long this has been out. It looked almost exactly like the knife we got for Defender.

It came out in like January of 2007. The Sharkie, the 8 dollar pen knife the Kudu I think, and the belt knife all came out at the same time.. I think!

For us UK guys, Heinnies are selling these as well for under a tenner, not that I enchourage buying from any of the banner members but on a knife so cheap the shipping can be the killer.

The Cold Steel Canadian Belt Knife is a cheaper copy of the Grohmann #1 Belt Knife that you guys got me for Christmas.  The Grohmann's handles is wood, while the Cold Steel's handle is molded plastic.  I am tempted to get one and do a shootout, but I can guarantee you that I am somewhat biased towards the Grohmann!

Last night I read a review of a belt-buckle knife at The Martialist site http://www.themartialist.com/ but I can't remember the brand. Site's offline right now for maintenance btw.

I've got a couple, they'll take a good edge. The question of how long it'll hold it I can't answer, nor do I know what kind ( or how much of) a tang it has.

Well,I just got Mora knife (model 760 I think) and for the same money. I think the Mora is a better knife, but for a cheap way to try out the pattern the cold steel isn't bad.

takes a rather nice edge, even razor sharp if you're patient and if you have the right stones. Holds an edge reasonably well for stainless steel and the tang extends 3/4 into the the handle. What I really like about this knife is that I can get it wet, leave it wet , drop it and never worry about the handles breaking, getting messed up or swelling.

But the real reason I bought it for camping was that It reaches well into my peanut butter Jar

It is a decent knife for the price. Nothing spectacular but it doesn't try to be anything it is not. Mine does a fine job in the kitchen.

Grohmahns(is it spelled correctly?) are better knives than the Canadian Belt.

I hate to admit it, but I do like the CS Canadian Belt Knife.  It's not as nice as the Grohmann, but the plastic handle and significantly cheaper price means it's a lot more versatile.

I actually had that grohman #1 for a while, but sold it because the handle is really uncomfortable, too skinny, it's like trying to hold onto a pencil.

So you guys are saying that an $80 knife is better than a $16 one? :P

I got the CS one from a giveaway Al did a while back and it's a good knife. :tu:

I knew someone won it off me, but I forgot who  :D :D

I quite liked it too, and it got used quite often along with the Finn Bear. I eventually got a Roach Belly which meant the CBK never got a look in, so I let it go. I do have more expensive and better knives, but that's no reason to not own/use one of these budget versions.
