Wetterling prices
on: November 06, 2013, 06:54:01 AM
This is old news I am sure but wow, the cost of a wetterlings hatchet sure has gone up. I bought one for around 20 bucks six years ago and now the prices are outrageous! 90 bucks and up. What a shame, I have used the wildlife hatchet each year camping. It's still in great shape. I thought I would pickup a larger model this weekend. I am guessing not!

They really have shot up in price haven't they? :(  I believe I am right in saying that they were bought out by Gransfors Bruk a few years ago and that the prices have been steadily climbing since. :-\

Gareth you're right. Now they serve as a lower priced Grans Bruks substitute. Although I think that Helko is getting to them slowly

Thankfully all my axe requirements are catered for, and the chances of my Granny Bs, Roselli, and various other log botherers not getting the job done is extremely slim. The Wettys do seem like decent axes from what I've seen, but I've never taken one for a proper test drive. Probably still worth the money though .... for now anyway

Styx, What is helko?

I asked that same question a while back.

i got a Helko from lowtech a year or two ago. Nice axe in my opinion. They make some cutting edge different looking axes. Mine is a claw hammer hatchet.

I got a good look at Wetterlings and GB at Smoky Mountain Knife Works up by the smoky mountains last summer. I'd be proud to own either. They had the whole line on display.
