For a long time i carried a SwissTool in my bag, but i have longing for a old SwissChamp as i had in the past.
My last SwissChamp i gave it as gift to a friend that was searching for a old SwissChamp with the old magnifying glass.
So i decided that it's time to buy a new one, but i want to find one with the old magnifying glass.
In the way to the store i was thinking that it will be great, if Victorinox let us order a customise knife to our needs.
For me i would like my SwissChamp to have the old magnifying glass with the longer philips screwdriver, but with the new metal file.
Then i thought that if Victorinox accept custom orders for just one knife for every customer, it will be flooded with orders from all over the world.
When i arrived in the store i ask the seller (who is a good friend of mine) if it's possible to find a old SwissChamp.
After a few minutes he came back and told me that i was lucky, he had two.
One from a SOS kit that he could give it to me, and he will replace it with a new one.
And the second one was a repaired SwissChamp from a customer that didn't came to receive it, and after 9 months they desided to sell it in a discount price.
I ask him to see the repaired SwissChamp, it was in brand new condition  and to my delight it had exactly what i want.
It had the old magnifying glass with the longer philips screwdriver, but with the new metal file, just as i want it.
I don't know if the configuration of the tools was made because it was repaired from the factory, or Victorinox give a new one from a batch with a mix of new and old design tools.
Either way i am very happy that i have found this SwissChamp.
And also with the discount i was able to buy a nice sheath all together.
That day was a perfect SAK day !

That's a lucky find alright, but why does everyone prefer the old mag glass? I'm going to get my first swiss champ pretty soon.

For me personally i like that is made from glass and not from plastic, it doesn't get scratches easily.
Also because of the small magnifying glass you get the longer philips screwdriver, that is more useful.
But that's me, some others they prefer the new one.

And as Marios said, only the old mag glass one has the longer phillips.

Isn't the new shorter phillips is made of harder steel? I think the ideal combination would be old style magnifier, new short phillips and new metal saw.

Second version (plastic) 5x magnification
Third version  I don't know,maybe the same with the second version?

What do you need the magnifying glass for?

It can get very useful. I use it with my iPhone to take "macro" photos. And sometimes to read small letters serial numbers in my work also...

the mag glass is possibly my most used 'tool' !!! I really do need to get some reading glasses 
but seriously if you have one for a while you'll miss it when it's gone, I can't leave my swisschamp at home in favour of ANY other multi/SAK just because I rely on the mag glass so much.

Michael - Look at a fresnel lens
