Disappointed in my Rebar...
on: January 02, 2015, 09:29:53 PM
Waiting for my SP300 I wanted something now and went to a local camping place tonight and bought a Rebar.

Very disappointed! Look at how loose it is!

Wow, that is a major QC fail... that tool is useless like this and with those screws it won't be easy to tighten it.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Even more disappointing that its my first Leatherman.

Will be returning it in the morning...

How often does this happen?

Occasionally. We've seen worse. Regretfully it's such a simple fix with the right tools, only a half a turn with the wrench to tighten it up that it's a shame they still use those screws. Would spare them a lot of hassle and warranty repairs.

Sorry to hear about this. Just return it for a different one. I can almost guarantee the replacement will not be like that.

Mine was hard to open, fairly easy to loosen but not without scratching up the bolts a bit.

I would return it as well and agree poor QC to let this one through.

One of the first things I did when I first bought my Rebar was grab two pairs of pliers and play with the bolts until the tension was perfect. Mine was nothing like that, though. Totally just swap it straight up for another. Chances are it won't happen again.

I'm still getting used to the idea that stores are close enough for me to exchange stuff. It's been seven years, though, so I'm beginning to suspect a problem with my brain being missing.

That's atrocious

Unfortunately I've have had several quality problems with Leatherman too, but they are quite good at fixing the problem. Go back to the store and ask to get it exchenged, and insist on checking out the replacement before you leave with it. If that doesn't resolve the issue (or they are no help), contact LM's agent in the UK via email, attach the videos, and tell them what the store said. One way or the other this will be sorted.

Hopefully your next one will be good, but I seem to have had more than my fair share of Leatherman fails and have a bit of a reputation for giving them a hard time on here  ;) I think it took me three or four different models before I found a tool from them that was worth owning, and have had more problems since then. They are NOT the super fandango wonder company that the internet leads you to think they are. They do make some good tools, and they do make some complete crap. However, that is not what I would expect from a Rebar, and they will put this right even if the store doesn't

Further proof that LM does not check any of their tools before they leave the assembly line. :td:

If they're not going to manufacture the tool properly they should be forced to use screws that anyone can manipulate...

YES, Just normal torx screws would be fine.  The security bits dont stop anyone, and are just a nuisance as you have to go buy those bits.

And one more.

I think there is only a certain prosent, that will go through QC. Anything that passes, is in your hands.

I ended up taking it back the next day, the woman told me it was fine, later offered to sell it to me reduced price. I asked for a new one and she said they had none, I showed her on my phone that there was 2 in stock and she told me no again. I got a refund and went elsewhere.

Guys in the UK will know the store... Go outdoors.

At least you got you're money back mate. Did you get a new Rebar from elsewhere? All OK?

How much was reduced price? Warranty would have taken care of you...

That's disappointing, hopefully you can find one elsewhere. It's a solid little tool.

I went and got a rebar the same day. All I have done with it is oil it (after reading stories about them rusting, I'm a but paranoid)

As for the discount I was told "a couple £££"
